Saint John Paul II Area Faith Community Bulletin Pastor: Rev. Matthew Wiering Nineteenth Sunday Parochial Vicar: Rev. John Hayes in Ordinary Time Senior Associate: Rev. Aaron Johanneck August 8, 2021 Church of the Holy Family Church of the Holy Trinity Church of St. Pius X 700 Main Street West 110 Winsted Avenue West, PO Box 9 1014 Knight Avenue North Silver Lake, MN 55381 Winsted, MN 55395 Glencoe, MN 55336 320 • 327 • 2356 320 • 485 • 2182 320 • 864 • 5162 www.holyfamilysilverlake.org www.winstedholytrinity.org www.stpiusxglencoe.org This past Wednesday, August 4, the Church celebrated the annual Memorial of St. John Vianney, who is the patron saint of priests. Born in rural France in 1786 to a poor family, he did domestic tasks and worked as a shepherd until he was 17. At that time, John was still not able to read. Given his lack of education and the family’s extreme poverty it seemed like he would never achieve his dream of being ordained a priest until his father finally allowed him to enroll in the seminary at age 20. His struggle with academics, especially learning Latin, seemed like it was going to prevent him from ever being advanced by the seminary faculty to ordination. But the priest in charge of his formation knew that he was a holy young man, whose heart was on fire with love for God and with the desire to save souls. At the age of 29, John was ordained a priest, and he served for many years in the small town of Ars, where, eventually, hundreds of people would come every day to go to confession to this holy priest or to see him celebrate Mass. He considered the priesthood to be the gift from God that unlocks the door to the whole treasury of grace that God desires to give His people in the Sacraments. He famously said, “The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.” The fiery love in his heart for God and his people was stoked daily by his reception of our Lord in the Eucharist. The following is an excerpt from a sermon of his on this most precious gift God has given us: We possess here among us a God, a Friend, a Consoler, and a Redeemer who will ease our sufferings, who promises us in this place of hardships such great bliss that, with the bride in the Song of Songs, we may exclaim: Have you seen my Beloved? When you see him, tell him that I languish with love. We not only possess him in the immensity of divinity, but have him also as he was during the nine months in Mary’s womb, and again as he was on the cross. More fortunate than the first Christians, who had to go fifty or sixty miles for the happiness of seeing him, the church of every parish contains him. Any congregation can, if it so desires, enjoy his most sweet companionship. O happy people, what I wish to show you today is how good God was in instituting the adorable sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Let us pray for our priests, that they will have hearts on fire with love for God and others! And let us pray for all those whom God is calling to the priesthood. St. John Vianney, pray for us! In Christ, Fr. Matthew Wiering

Winstock is expecting a large crowd and is having a very hard time finding volunteers. We desperately need help. Winstock will be held on August 20th & 21st. If you are available to work a 4-1/2 hour shift, please contact one of the individuals listed below. You do NOT need to purchase a ticket to volunteer. Those volunteers not purchasing a ticket are asked to come no earlier than a ½ hour before the start of your shift. If you purchase a ticket and work a shift, you will receive a voucher for $25.00 at the end of your shift. There are also certain shifts that are eligible for a $50.00 tuition voucher based on area and a need to fill basis. We will be having a volunteer meeting on Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. on the Winstock grounds. At this meeting you will be able to purchase a limited amount of Winstock tickets for the early bird price of $135.00. The volunteer parking area will be secured, so it is very important all volunteers are on the worker list. We sincerely thank all the many volunteers of the past; your help is very much appreciated. Holy Trinity School Making Disciples Since 1883 “Let’s Build Together” The week before last the school staff attended the annual national conference of the Institute of Catholic Liberal Education on the campus of St. Thomas in St. Paul. It was a terrific conference spanning from Monday through Thursday, and the focus of this conference was growth in understanding and implementing Catholic, classical education, also known as Catholic liberal education. Here the use of the word liberal is not used in the political sense but in the sense that true education liberates us to be fully and truly who God made us to be. Many speakers from around the country presented talks, including some notable locals such as the Director of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas, Dr. Michael Naughton, and the Auxiliary Bishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Most Reverend Andrew H. Cozzens! In addition to that, the opening Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda! This conference was a tremendous help in our growth toward a Catholic classical education. It was very encouraging to be together with more than 325 participants including three bishops and 17 priests! There were also over 1,500 participants joining us virtually! The excitement for our upcoming year continues to grow. Two key areas of the enthusiasm are our student growth and the new additions to our team. Our current enrollment is 159, an over 20% increase above where we ended last year with 129! With a steady stream of families looking into HT, I believe we will continue to add students throughout the summer. This month, I have been introducing you to the new members of our team. This week I have our last teacher to tell you about. Technically, we do not need to hire any additional teachers. However, if we could find a good person for the Kindergarten teacher position, I would likely hire that person and move my K teacher elsewhere where I need her. With our growth, we are on the verge of needing to hire another teacher! Thank you for your continued prayers and support! We will continue to pray for you, our benefactors, every day. God Bless, Anthony Biese I am very pleased to introduce you to our new high school language arts and history teacher: Hello Holy Trinity Families!
