Show Synopsis You've arrived in Illyria where all are welcomed! In this fast-paced and hilarious adaptation of William Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT, you will be transported to the tuneful town of Illyria where this comedy of mistaken identities and practical jokes unfold. Our story begins at the funeral procession for Countess Olivia’s brother. Feste, our narrator, lifts the spirits of the townspeople by singing, “If music be the food of love, play on!” Meanwhile, we meet Viola, who is separated from her twin brother Sebastian in a shipwreck and makes her way by disguising herself as a man, “Cesario”, to work as a servant for Illyria’s Duke Orsino (with whom she promptly falls in love). Orsino doesn’t notice because he’s deeply in love with Countess Olivia. Orsino sends “Cesario” to “woo” Olivia with his words of love, but instead, Olivia falls for “Cesario.” Confused? So is Viola. 6
Viola questions her worth singing, “If I’m a girl again, would he care what I have to say anymore… would I even be a woman he’d adore?” Enter the merry-makers of this mischievous musical: Sir Toby Belch is Olivia’s uncle who is always ready to party and sing a tuneful melody, Maria is Olivia’s mischievous servant, Sir Andrew is Toby’s sidekick who is determined to marry Olivia as well, and lastly Malvolio, Olivia’s steward who fancies himself above his station. Toby, Maria, and Sir Andrew devise a plot and tell Malvolio that Olivia is in love with him. Maria pens a love letter and the game of mockery is on, playing at Malvolio’s arrogance. What will happen when Viola’s twin brother Sebastian washes up on shore? Who will win Olivia’s hand in marriage? Will Viola reveal her true self and intentions? How will our face-paced romantic comedy end? The video or audio recording of this performance by any means is strictly prohibited. 7
