Welcome Message We are glad to welcome you to Italy and to the Department of Management & In- novation Systems - University of Salerno, the first university in South Italy. Our aim is to make your stay here a unique and fruitful experience through classes, company visits, and discussions. We have mixed different pedagogical approaches to help you discover South Italy from an insider’s perspective. You will discover the concept of Business Inspiration ranging from the most tradi- tional industry to the most innovative one. You will soak in concepts and values at the heart of the majority of the italian business models: culture, family, creativity. Is there really a dichotomy between tradition and innovation? Is a family firm a unique bundle of resources? How did firms discovered their business models? How do we teach in Italy? The answers to these questions show the Italian Business Culture and provide grounds to discuss about similarities and differences between countries from a cross-cultural perspective. Your week here is just the right amount of time to show you the South Italian Busi- ness Mood and we genuinely hope you will enjoy and learn a lot from your experi- ence with us. A team of dedicated people has been working tirelessly and passion- ately to build this wonderful experience and to provide you with the best service possible from a public university. In conclusion, benvenuti a Salerno! Bice Della Piana Carolina Serrano Archimi STUDY TOUR ITALY 3

Friday afternoon: a mini-round table on “Culture, Family & Business Inspiration” will conclude the week of academic events as final moment of comparison between different academic and professional perspectives. FLASH CONSULTING COMPANY PROJECTS: There are three (3) Flash Consulting business challenges to be addressed by teams of students. The general structure of the exercise is as follows: 1. Each company proposes one or several real business topics that they would like to be addressed by the EMBA teams. The different teams will conduct their preliminary work (research, prepare ideas, collect any data requested, etc.) while they are still in France. 2. On the day of the visit, the Flash Consulting typically begins with a brief (15-20 minute) welcome/overview of the company and a review of the Flash missions by the company representative. Depending on the company, this may include a brief tour of facilities. Teams may then ask for any clarifications concerning the project questions. 3. Thereafter, students will break out into their teams and finalize their perspectives and recommendations for the company. 4. Each team will present their suggestions/recommendations, followed by comments and open discussion with the company sponsor. 5. Each team provides their notes and recommendations to the company sponsor. From start to finish, the visits are typically around 3.5 hours. Students are encouraged to consult the websites of each company and carefully research the different company profiles. They are also free to collect additional data they deem important for offering a viable recommendation to the companies. SPONSORING COMPANIES AND FLASH CONSULTING PROJECTS: HEALTHWARE FLASH CONSULTING Healthware International is a company providing different services to firms and entities STUDY TOUR ITALY 9
Syllabus operating in the health sector: from consulting activities to communication & marketing services, Healthware aims to empower its clients by focusing its action on four core com- petency pillars: strategy, product design, development, marketing. Focusing on the Life Science Industry (big pharma) as the primary target conduct an online analysis to determine: • Who are Healthware’s top 5 competitors? • How do each of these service providers differentiate themselves? Select one of the top 5 competitors and analyse key communication messages provided on their website • Use the SWOT tool to synthesize your findings (Healthware vs Competitors) AGRICONSERVE REGA Agriconserve Rega is a company producing preserves located in Striano, near Sarno. Us- ing biological farming and a ISO certifying its processes, Rega focuses its strategy on the quality of the products as the main driver of its business: besides the traditional pomodoro San Marzano d.o.p., it also produces other varieties of raw tomato and many of its deriva- tives and other sort of preserves as mushrooms, beans, artichokes and canned fruit. After having established itself in the local market, Agriconserve Rega is willing to expand its business abroad. • Which strategies are to be implemented in order to guarantee a successful entry in a foreign market? • Which challenges Agriconserve Rega as a preserves industry will confront and what solutions should implement in order to overcome them? AZIENDA AGRICOLA SAN SALVATORE Azienda Agricola San Salvatore is a farm located in the heart of the National Park of Ci- lento and Vallo di Diano. Founded in 1988 by Mr. Giuseppe Pagano, the farm can boast a wide offer of different products deeply rooted in the local traditions: producer of wine, extra-virgin olive oil, mozzarella di bufala d.o.p., jam and preserves, San Salvatore is the only farm to provide such a complete offer of local products while retaining an excel- lent quality standard. Besides the direct selling of the products, San Salvatore can also boast the near deli “La Dispensa” where customers are provided with a unique tasting experience of the Cilento culture. La Dispensa is the final result and the flagship of San Salvatore philosophy as the added value of the farm resides in the unity of their offer: they can produce all of the typical Cilento products and they do so while maintaining excellent quality standards and preserving the local cultural heritage. Mr. Pagano’s plans for the foreseeable future are to franchise La Dispensa: this not only means providing the very same format abroad, but also to export the Cilento atmosphere and culture. • How would it be possible for San Salvatore farm to expand its market abroad in the form of a franchising while advocating for the traditional and rural Cilento culture in other countries and retaining its usual excellent quality standards? • How would it be possible to do all of this while communicating the added value of the business that lies in the unity, the mutual connection of the products and the quality of their offer? 10 STUDY TOUR ITALY

Flash Consulting Company Project 3 San Salvatore Flash Consulting “we at San Salvatore do not farm the land: we take care of it” Azienda Agricola San Salvatore is a farm located in the heart of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano. Founded in 1988 by Mr. Giuseppe Pagano, it covers a total area of 270 acres (divided in vineyards, orchards, ol- ive groves and coppiced woodland) extending to the mu- nicipalities of Capaccio, Stio and Giungano. The farm can boast a wide offer of different products deeply rooted in the local agricultural and buffalo breeding tradition: from 12 wines from 5 different varieties of grape, to extra-virgin olive oil, mozzarella di bufala d.o.p., jam and preserves, San Salvatore is the only farm to provide such a complete offer of local products while retaining an excellent quality stand- ard. The philosophy of San Salvatore farm is deeply rooted in the harmonious relationship between the locals and the environment: using organic farming and biodynamic ag- riculture methods contributes to the creation of a thriving environment in the vineyards; the same approach is also used in the breeding farm in Giungano and the dairy, where the dairy master produces mozzarella di bufala d.o.p.; besides the direct selling of the products, San Salvatore can also boast the near deli “La Dispensa” where Cilento housewives and grandmothers, keepers of the traditional recipes, prepare local rural dishes using San Salvatore farm products, providing customers with a unique tasting experience of the Cilento culture. La Dispensa is the final result and the flagship of San Salvatore philoso- phy: the added value of the farm resides in the unity of their offer: they are not just a winery, not just a dairy or a breeding farm: they can produce all of the typical prod- ucts of the Cilento land and they do so while maintaining excellent quality standards and preserving the local cultural heritage. Mr. Pagano’s plans for the foreseeable future are to franchise La Dispensa: this not only means providing the very same format abroad, but also to export the Cilento atmosphere and culture. How would it be possible for San Salvatore farm to expand its market abroad in the form of a franchising while advocating for the tradi- tional and rural Cilento culture in other countries and retaining its usual excellent quality standards? How would it be possible to do all of this while communicating the added value of the business that lies in the unity, the mutual connection of the products and the quality of their offer?
