January 16, 2022 Dear Parishioners, The statue of Our Lady that was moved to the Great Hall during the time when Masses were held there while the church interior was restored has been placed in the lighted display case in the Narthex. I invite you to visit this statue that has become a very important symbol of prayer and devotion of our church home where it is presently located. The following is placed beside the statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Your Pastor, Father David OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART This statue has been continuously venerated in Emmaus Church ever since its consecration in 2001. It originates from France and is dated to the Mid Nineteenth century. Our Lady is depicted on a foundation of heavenly clouds and crowned as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. In a pleading gesture, she lovingly holds her divine son’s sacred heart while the child Jesus bestows his blessing upon the person who looks upon this stature with devotion. In 2020, from February 17 to September 25 while the church was undergoing restoration, this statue was moved to the Parish Great Hall where Mass was celebrated as a symbol of hope in anticipation of returning to our beloved church home. PRAYER REMEMBER, OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART, WHAT INEFFABLE POWER THY DIVINE SON HATH GIVEN THEE OVER HIS OWN ADORABLE HEART. FILLED WITH CONFIDENCE IN THY MERITS, WE COME BEFORE THEE AND IMPLORE THY PROTECTION. O HEAVENLY TREASURER OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, THAT HEART WHICH IS THE INEXHAUSTIBLE SOURCE OF ALL GRACES, WHICH THOU MAYEST OPEN TO US AT THY GOOD PLEASURE, IN ORDER THAT FROM IT MAY FLOW FORTH UPON MANKIND THE RICHES OF LOVE AND MERCY, LIGHT AND SALVATION, THAT ARE CONTAINED THEREIN, GRANT UNTO US, WE BESEEECH THEE, THE FAVORS WHICH WE SEEK. WE CAN NEVER BE REFUSED BY THEE. AND SINCE THOU ART OUR MOTHER, O OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART, GRACIOUSLY RECEIVE OUR PRAYERS AND GRANT OUR REQUEST. AMEN. AN INDULGENCE OF 500 DAYS. A PLENARY INDULGENCE ON THE USUAL CONDITIONS, IF THIS PRAYER IS DEVOUTLY RECITED EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH (S.P.AP. APRIL 5, 1949)

January 16, 2022 Our Holy Father Pope Francis has invited the Catholic Church to embark on a journey together. Through listening and discernment rooted in the Holy Spirit, the en re people of God will be called to contribute to a process by which the Church deepens in understanding of Her mission and looks toward the future. A Synod, which is the process by which the Church will begin this important work, is not just a convening of Bishops reflec ng on a par cular topic and advising the Pope. A Synod is a journey of discernment, in which the people of God are called to pray and reflect upon the Holy Spirit’s will for the Church. Through our listening and our sharing, we will seek to understand what the Holy Spirit’s will is for the topic being discussed ʹ and thus, for the Church. For the 2023 Ordinary Synod of Bishops, that topic is synodality. Simply put, synodality is discerning how the Spirit is moving through and with the Body of Christ, so that we may con nue to fulfill our mission to evangelize in the world. The synodal process began with a moment of reflec on and Holy Mass with Pope Francis in Rome on October 9Ͳ10 2021. This was followed by an opening of the synodal process in the Diocese of Aus n at San Jose Parish on October 21, 2021. Since then the Diocese of Aus n has been preparing documents, selec ng individuals as Parish Points of Contact, and providing training sessions on how to lead the Parish Listening Sessions. Here at Emmaus, we are finally ready to join the process. What does mean? It means that we have scheduled our Parish Listening Session for Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 9:00 AM to noon in the Great Hall. Why Should You Aend? You should a%end because this is your chance to be heard about your hopes, dreams, and concerns about the direc(on the Church should be taking in the years to come. To RSVP, contact Stephanie Gregoire, our parish facilitator for the Listening Session at gregoire.stephanie8@gmail.com or call the parish office at 512Ͳ261Ͳ8500. If you can't make the Parish Listening Session, please take the 'me to share your opinion online atwww.aus'ndiocese.org/synod
