Term 3 Issue 6 Dear Parents/Carers, As we approach the end of this academic year, it is vital to recognise how well the children have adapted to all the changes they have faced this year. We know it has not been easy but they have coped so brilliantly and we are incredibly proud of them. Thank you so much for your continued support-it is really appreciated! WELCOME BACK EVERYONE! Last week, we completed important assessments to find out how much progress the children have made and where their gaps in learning are. This information will support us in identifying intervention groups for the coming year and provide us with an understanding of the impact of the last 16 months. We are committed to ensuring that children reach their potential despite the pandemic and we will continue to work hard to close gaps and help children reach the expected standard and beyond. In the next couple of weeks, we will say a fond farewell to our fantastic year 6 children as they move on to their new schools. They had a wonderful day last Monday at Chessington World of Adventures where they had the chance to celebrate their time at Byron. We now look forward to their leaving end of term play We also say thank you and farewell to some staff who are leaving us at the end of term. Huge thanks to Mrs Lawlor ,Mrs Simmonds and Mrs Wilshaw who have been an amazing part of our Byron teaching team for too many years to mention. We are very grateful for their wonderful support for children as well as their invaluable help provided to teaching staff. Finally, we thank Mrs Hughes (associated with Byron for many years) who returned to Byron to teach year 3 this year. We wish them all the best in their new ventures from retirement to new careers and hope that they all stay in touch. We will miss you all! Despite the mixed bag of weather yesterday, the children enjoyed a carrousel of Sports Day activities ranging from standing long jump to Javelin throwing. The atmosphere was amazing and we were so proud to see children trying their personal best and supporting one another. Due to the field being wet, we have had to postpone the running race element until next Thursday 15th July where we shall award stickers for participation. We have included the points score on this newsletter and will add these points to the final race scores in order to see which house wins overall. Once again, thank you so much for your continued support. We hope you a lovely weekend and wish England the best of luck against Italy this Sunday! Best wishes, Clare Wingrave (Principal) and James Norris (Deputy Principal)
School Attendance This week we have achieved 97.8% Let’s push for 98% next week! We appreciate that many of our families shall be wanting to watch the England vs Italy game this Sunday which starts at 8pm. In recognition of this, we shall be keeping our registers open until 10am. This means that if your child gets up later and misses their usual time slot, please arrive any time between 9am and 10am via the school main Office.
Congratulations to Simran for passing her first formal Tae Kwondo (TKD) Grading. She had to attend a seminar run by the Master of her TKD association, and perform her set pattern and demonstrate fundamental movements on command. She also had to learn and pass the theory test based on the philosophy and history of TKD. Well done Simran!
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been tasting carrots and peas. Most of us preferred carrots! Why not have a go at making carrot and lentil soup? Click here! Oasis Academy Byron Pupils Learn CPR and Defibrillation Today, all of our children from year 2 to year 6 took part in a first aid course to teach them life saving skills and defibrillation. The course is kept at a basic level with no use of confusing terminologies. Every child was awarded a certificate for participation. Great Job Byron! As a school we are very fortunate to have a defibrillator on site.
