Iberostar’s new children’s entertainment programme encourages kids to have fun through exploration IBEROSTAR REINVENTS HOLIDAYS FOR ITS YOUNGEST GUESTS WITH ‘STAR CAMP’ Iberostar Hotels & Resorts presents Star Camp, its new entertainment programme for children and teenagers that combines fun and value. A programme designed to transform the family holiday concept, it will be available at all Iberostar hotels from this summer onwards. An extensive programme of creative activities has been designed to enable children to develop all their talents and abilities, turning them into mini journalists, chefs, artists or film directors whilst they enjoy a unique holiday experience in a fun environment created especially for them. Starting in 2018, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts’ youngest guests can enjoy a new activity programme created exclusively for them. Star Camp, the recently launched leisure service, is based on an innovative format combining entertainment and values. The project is intended to put children’s rest and relaxation time to good use, offering them more than 140 activities designed for entertainment that encourage children’s integral growth and development based on values that also form part of the chain’s philosophy: cooperation, empathy, healthy habits, the development of technological awareness, the value of diversity and environmental care. With an appearance reminiscent of the Scout movement, this programme is rooted in pedagogical principles and applies Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, which includes a range of practices (linguistic, musical, logical- mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, bodily-kinesthetic and spatial) for the correct development of a human being. More than 140 activities tailored for each age The Star Camp kids’ activities are divided into 12 categories: physical leisure activities; precision and accuracy activities; team sports; social events; group challenges; activities related to the surroundings; artistic expression; creative handicrafts; board games, learning activities; polyvalent activities and shows; scientific activities; and technology-based activities. Children are grouped by ages and work on the intelligences and values in ways tailored to meet their abilities and interests. The Monkeys group targets children aged between 4 and 7 years; Dolphins is for those between 8 and 12 years; whilst 13 to 17 year olds are included in the Eagles group. With these new activities, the ‘stars’ of the new Star Camp will be able to hone their culinary skills with a fun-packed cookery programme; discover their artistic side by forming teams to
recreate artworks in Art goes big time; put their senses to the test, just like in the trendiest restaurants, guessing the ingredients in the dishes featured in the Sensory Menu; film their own short movie; become journalists or publicists for the day or star in their own impromptu videoclip; work with clay to bring out the artist in them; accept a Mission (im)possible, crossing an obstacle course whilst blindfolded with only their fellow team members to help; take an Eco- friendly Hike; dream up and create a robot; or work out how to get out of a Roomscape, to name but a few of the myriad options. What’s more, the educational initiatives for children on the Star Camp programme include one day a week dedicated entirely to the oceans. These fun-packed days include activities such as hunting for microplastics on the beach or handicraft sessions using recycled materials. Throughout the day, the fun and games also provide an opportunity for learning about the environment through play, as well as boosting the company’s commitment to sustainability, reflected through its ‘Wave of Change’ initiative. On arrival at the Star Camp, each child will receive a kit containing equipment that will enable them to live their Iberostar adventure to the full and identify them as a member of their group. Once they have finished their activities, the younger children in the Monkeys and Dolphins groups will stamp the ‘countries’ they have visited (identifying the various intelligences or aptitudes) on their very own passport, whilst the older children in the Eagles group will receive coloured bracelets for the various tasks (and intelligences) they complete. In order to raise group awareness and encourage teamwork, Iberostar has also created exclusive and personalised spaces for Monkeys, Dolphins and Eagles, providing each child with a venue to meet up and have fun with young people of their own age. The new children’s activity programme, which will be on offer at all Iberostar hotels starting this summer, will transform the family holiday concept thanks to an innovative mix of entertainment and values. All Iberostar Group actions include the essential task of raising sustainable development awareness. The hotel chain is convinced that “it is people that move the world and bring about a change of mindset”. This awareness-raising work extends to Group employees, the communities in which the hotels are located, our suppliers, all our guests and, of course, all young people, who hold the future of our planet in their hands.
