Friday 5th February 2021 Dear Parents/Carers, We would like to thank you for all of the support in keeping the nursery open. We will continue to keep all of the children safe during the current lock down by strictly following Government guidance. As you know we have also broken into smaller ‘bubbles’ but have continued to keep our procedures and routines the same so that the children feel safe and are familiar with the routine. Message from the Principal As you will know, on Wednesday the government announced that schools will not return to full face-to-face education after the February half-term and that the current attendance restrictions will remain in place until 8th March at the earliest. I appreciate how incredibly challenging this must be for families with older siblings. We hope that by keeping the nurseries open in full, we have made things a little easier as you try to juggle working from home and online learning with your older children. Of course, remaining open is only possible because of our committed nursery teams, and I am immensely proud and thankful to all my staff who continue to come to work and welcome our families every day, despite the increased associated risks. The children have, and always will be, their first priority and because of this our nurseries continue to be a joyful place for your little ones. Throughout the pandemic we have been constantly assessing risk and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and infection control in our nurseries. In January we introduced additional measures including smaller bubbles for the children, temperature checks on arrival and weekly Lateral Flow testing for staff members. We can see the positive impact this has had and, to date, we have had no positive cases this year and no bubbles have closed. We are committed to playing our part in the lengthy battle against Covid-19 and I ask for your continued support. If your child or anyone in your household has symptoms of Covid-19 please stay at home and advise your Nursery Manager that you are booking a test. This action and communication enables us to take swift measures to help keep everyone in our nurseries as safe as possible. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss any aspect of nursery life in lockdown please don’t hesitate to contact me or your Nursery Manager. With continued thanks for your support and understanding, please keep safe. Warm wishes, Jess Elliott Jessica.elliott@genesistrust.net
Drop off and Collection We are now taking all the children’s temperatures at the gate and they are being taking to their own bubbles. We appreciate all the support from our parents to help us ensure the safety of everyone in these uncertain times. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the senior team. When dropping off or collecting children from the nursery gate you MUST wear a mask unless medically exempt. This is to ensure the safety of other parents, families and our staff team. Important Staff update: We are very happy to announce that congratulations are in order for Milena from the Panda room who is expecting her second baby at the start of March. Milena is due to start her maternity leave next week and her last day will be Monday 8th February 2021. The entire Panda room and nursery team would like to let her know, ‘We will all miss you while you are away, we hope you enjoy your time off and wish you all the best for the arrival of your little one!’ The yellow no parking zone: We would like to remind parents that no one should be parking on the marked yellow zig zag lines in front of the school/Nursery property when dropping off or collecting your children, this area is to be kept clear at all times as it is a no parking zone. Covid-19 testing As many of know we have been taking extra measures to ensure the nursery is as covid safe as possible. We have done this by requiring adults to wear masks, regular cleaning checks throughout the day and temperature check upon arrival. On top of these measures we are now also asking that our staff receive a lateral flow test weekly to prevent the spread of the virus at nursery. These regular tests help us to keep our staff, children and families safe during this pandemic. Nursery Attendance If your child will not be attending nursery, please ensure you either call or email and make us aware of your child’s absence. This is to help us staff efficiently and allocate ad hoc days to those who need them ahead of time. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. School Open Days Unfortunately, due to the current ongoing restrictions with Covid-19, the school is unable to hold open days for prospective parents at this time. Please visit the school website to view the virtual school tour of St Mary’s CofE Primary school. http://www.stmaryscofe.org/our-school-welcome-video/ Please contact the office for more details regarding reception applications. Important Dates: Valentine’s Dress up day – 12th February (Wear something red) Half Term Week 15th-19th February 2021
What we are getting up to this week This week at nursery, all of our rooms have been very busy settling into our new bubble rooms and supporting children getting back into the regular nursery routine again. Here are some of our favourite activities and learning experiences for the next week. Bunnies This in the Bunny room we were reading about the 3 little pigs, we have been making lots of creative works for our new display board and explored roller painting and sticking with different natural resources for our little pig homes. We explored sensory activities using coconut, cotton balls and water and worked hard on learning new words from our story. Tigers This week in the Tiger room, we absolutely loved learning about shapes. We explored shapes by using them in paint stamping, shape pizza construction and using play dough! Our Tigers practiced their counting skills as we identified the number of sides and counted them together. Please can you kindly remind parents to clearly mark your child’s clothing items, this includes shoes and socks, as often children have similar items and this helps us ensure correct items go home with the correct owners. Pandas This week in the Panda room, we started reading about Jack and the beanstalk. We explored different mathematical activities from measuring the giant’s footprints and beanstalks, we got crafty as me made our own magical beans and we got creative as we mixed our play dough and added lots of beans. We learned about the letter ‘j’ j-j-j-j-j-jack in the box and practiced our writing using the phrase – ‘Down the body then curl and a dot’. We explored different items beginning with the sound ‘j’ in our sound bag and looked for the sound ‘j’ in our story of the week. At the literacy table, we used name cards from our story of the week to match to the different pictures and we practiced our writing skills by trying to write some of the words.
