2020 Bunbury School Board Candidates Rachel Boybay I believe the School Board has an important role in shaping the vision and culture of the school, influencing the wider school community and improving the wellbeing and success of all students. As parents, we have a responsibility to support the school and establish an environment where students feel safe, have the courage to collaborate, be challenged and try new things in a safe and nurturing environment. We want a community that supports the wellbeing of our children, embraces diversity, promotes self-worth of students and develops resilient, independent learners who strive for personal success. As a member of the school board, the focus of decision making would be the foundation of the school: be responsible, be caring, be respectful and be your best. The values espoused in these Bunbury Primary School statements should form the foundation of any governance and decision making. I have enjoyed the support of the school in the social, emotional and academic development of my two children at Bunbury Primary School and I look forward to working closely with the school to continue to improve the outstanding reputation and achievements of this great school of ours. As a parent of children in kindergarten and Year 1, I am dedicated to the three year term, will commit to the meeting arrangements and will provide additional support as required. I have a degree in Health Sciences and have worked extensively for large companies in employee relations, industrial relations and human resources. I have a good understanding of legal requirements and am able to navigate legislation and a diverse range of policies, procedures and guidelines. I am able to use a wide range of technology and software, and I keep abreast of current events and read widely. As a school board member, I would actively support the effective and strategic use of resources, encourage shared leadership within the school community, assist in developing positive relationships with school community, support the school vision and positive behaviour support programme and ensure we remain the school of choice in the region by focusing on our learning environment. I have the expertise, passion and enthusiasm to be a valued and dedicated Board member. I believe we need to work together to enhance the potential of our children and our community and I look forward to the opportunity to actively support the school in achieving this as a Board member. Thomas Shook As a parent of two students at Bunbury Primary, one in year four and the other in year one; I am familiar with the school and basic policies. As a board member I would use my life experiences, both personal and work-related, to continue the process of making Bunbury Primary one of best schools in the area. As a migrant to Australia, I feel I would bring a different perspective to various topics, creating an open dialogue on best practices not only for the school and facility, but the continued development of the student.
