Cindi’s All the encouragements of ‘he’ll grow out of it,’ and murmurings of ‘geez, what kind of parent is she?’ came crashing down to a diagnosis of ADHD, sensory integration disorder, and Story expressive language disorder. We couldn’t finish a playdate without someone getting hurt from an impulsive outburst or everyone witnessing a tantrum in full force. I started attending the PHP LD/ADHD support group and lectures every month; I cried over PHP library books and found amazing community resources. I shared my experience with parents going through the same thing with their children. Parents Helping Parents was there the entire time, helping me to become an informed parent and empowered advocate for my son with special needs. Slowly I learned what to say, what to do, and what to expect to maintain peace in my house and in my heart. I shared that valuable information with my husband and daughter, and then with other families. As my son grew, the Aspergers and bipolar diagnoses came. Today, my son is in college. The PHP community became my helpful, extended family. All is well one day at time with Parents Helping Parents. — Cindi Savelli
