NOLLAIG 2021 NUACHTLITIR Your monthly news from Sacred Heart National School Rath INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Covid-19 Update Parents' Association The Lunch Bag Sacraments Gaeilge Anti-Bullying Policy Christmas 2021 Covid-19 As you're probably aware by now, some new guidelines have come into effect with regard to protecting the spread of Covid-19 in schools. Antigen Testing We ask you to please inform us if your child tests positive on a PCR test. We will then contact the parents of children in the same pod to inform them that they can avail of free antigen tests for their child. If there are cases in more than one pod, then the whole class will be eligible to apply for the free antigen tests. Asymptomatic children can continue to attend school. If your child develops any symptoms or receives a positive result on an antigen test, you must book a PCR test as soon as possible and they will need to isolate. Face Masks The Department of Education announced last night new temporary requirements in relation to mask wearing in schools for pupils in 3rd Class to 6th Class. This rule may not apply to certain pupils with special needs and medical conditions, and exemptions can be sought on these grounds. Please contact the school principal if you wish to discuss a possible exemption further. Children will still play outdoors without their masks. School management are mindful of the difficulties facing parents securing suitable and comfortable masks at such short notice. Therefore, we will take a practical and pragmatic approach, and from next Monday we aim to implement the requirements in full. We are acutely aware of the difficulties that some of these new requirements and guidelines may cause for pupils and parents. However, they are being implemented in order to protect our entire school community and indeed the wider community. Your continued cooperation and support is greatly appreciated.
Nollaig 2021 Sacraments Congratulations to those pupils in 3rd Class and 4th Class who recently received the sacrament of First Holy Communion. There are still a small number of children who will have to wait a little longer and we hope they have a special day too in the coming weeks. Thank you to Fr O'Neill and Fr Dooley, and also to the Parents' Association for their lovely treats afterwards. Míle buíochas freisin to all the staff who helped to prepare the children and help out on the day also. Confirmation 2022 has been confirmed for Thursday March 24th with a time to be confirmed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gaeilge Bain triail as beagán Gaeilge sa bhaile. As outlined previously, each month, we will pick a number of phrases to work on; in school and at home. The engagement from the children and staff has been 'ar fheabhas' so far and we're delighted with the response. Bain triail as agus bain taitneamh as! Nollaig (December) Seachtain 1 - 'An bhfuil sceitimíní ort? Tá/ Níl sceitimíní orm. (Are you excited? I am / I'm not excited.) Seachtain 2 - 'Táim ag tnúth le......' (I'm looking forward to....) Seachtain 3 - 'Nollag Shona duit/ Nollag shona agus athbhliain faoi mhaise duit'. (Happy Christmas to you / Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anti-Bullying Policy A new and updated Anti-Bullying Policy was ratified by the board of management at a recent meeting. It is available to view and download on the school website https://www.rathns.ie/about-rath-ns/school-policies/ Many thanks to the large number of parents who responded to the online survey. The responses were insightful and valuable. The pupils in 2nd Class to 6th Class were also surveyed. The Parents' Association hope to organise a guest speaker to address our parent body on the topic of bullying in the coming months.
Nollaig 2021 The Lunch Bag I'll remind you that 'The Lunch Bag' have launched their service in the school and a number of families are already availing of it. Please visit https://www.thelunchbag.ie/ for more details. Remember that lunches have to be ordered on the app before 12pm the previous day. Christmas Our Student Council will once again organise a ‘Santa Dash’ before Christmas. 50% of sums raised will be donated to St Vincent de Paul. It is essentially a fun run, around the same route as the Halloween Hike. The children can wear their Christmas jumpers and Santa hats. The event will take place on Tuesday December 21st at 12pm. We will require volunteers to steward for an hour or so. We are not asking the children to sell sponsorship cards, but donations can be made on the day. If they wish, the children can wear Christmas jumpers between December 13th – 22nd. We will close for the Christmas holidays on Wednesday December 22nd at 12:30pm. We will reopen on Thursday January 6th. This is our final newsletter for 2021. It has been a strange and challenging year for everyone in our community. We wish to thank you for your cooperation and continued support throughout, and we look forward to brighter and more positive times ahead. As the Christmas season draws closer, we take this opportunity to wish all our pupils, parents and families all the blessings and joys of the festive season. Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir agus athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh.
