Khàtìnas.àxh School February 2021 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE A year ago, it would have been hard to imagine that we would still be talking about Covid-19 today. It has greatly affected the lives of our students, staff, and community. Our students have been amazing during this period adjusting to the new norms. They have shown themselves to be resilient people who have continued to grow and learn. With guidance and leadership from their teachers, they are successfully working through the curricu- lum. BOOKS HAVE POWER Three years ago Khàtìnas.àxh School received a grant from Indigo’s Love of Reading Foundation. Together with Indigo, Chapters and Coles em- ployees and customers, the Foundation provides funding to high-needs Canadian elementary school libraries. A book can change a child’s life – it can lead to a lifelong love of reading and educational success. Many elementary schools have limited library budgets, this leaves vulnerable students with inadequate school libraries filled with outdated, tattered, and unappealing books. The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation gives Canadian high-needs elementary schools funds to purchase the books and educational resources they need. We have procured a wide variety of books spanning all interests, and levels of reading to inspire both our staff and students. This collection is precious to the school and we wish to maintain it for years to come. If your child has library books to return, please do so in a timely manner “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss HATCHING QUAIL EXPERIMENT Our enthusiastic grade 4/5 Science and Phys. Ed. teacher con- ducted an experiment hatching quail eggs, some from her flock of laying hens and some from grocery store eggs. We were very excited when the quail eggs from the grocery store hatched chicks! 4
