SMCS Spirit Wear Day The first Tuesday of each month is Zephyrs Spirit Wear Day! All Zephyrs young and old are encouraged to wear their Zephyrs attire with casual pants/shorts/skirts. You can also wear our school colors of Columbia blue (light blue) and gold. PTO Virtual Meeting
Our first PTO meeting of the year will be virtual through Zoom on Friday, September 3 at 8:25 a.m. We will email a link to families the day before. All are welcome! Student Liturgies St. Gabriel School is looking for a volunteer to accompany the students during Thursday morning liturgies during the school year. If you have an hour available between 8:00-9:00 AM and would like to help praise the Lord with music, please call the school office at 725-4161. If you are unable to commit to every Thursday morning, we may be able to come up with a schedule if we have enough volunteers. Any instrument or vocal leader would be appreciated! Our first liturgy of the school year is Thursday, September 2 at 8:15. Please enter using the church doors on Geiger Street, not the main school doors. Parents and family are welcome to wait in the cafeteria for the classrooms and then join their child(ren). Families are encouraged to sit together with their child's class. Hot Lunch Volunteers Our hot lunch is available at no cost to you again this year because of federal grants. This is available to all students regardless of income. Our monthly menus can be found by clicking here. You will notice that the popular PBJ is offered every other week instead of daily. This is due to shortages that our food service is working on with vendors. This year chef salads are back on the menu. This has been popular with our students in the past! We are always looking for volunteers to help serve and clean up in our lunchroom. After lunch is served you are able to enjoy a complimentary lunch and eat with your child. Click here to sign up. After School Care If you need after school care (3:00-5:30) please sign up online by clicking here. There is limited space for all day care on professional development days. This is held at St. Margaret Mary for all of our elementary schools. Click here to sign up. Classes This year our elementary schools will use a trimester schedule for some of our specialist classes like we did last year. There were many benefits to doing this including a deeper dive into the curriculum. Instead of having art class once per week, students will have art 4 times per week during their trimester. At St. Gabriel, our first trimester will have art class, the next trimester will be music class, and the final trimester will be technology skills. Please know that students will still engage in these curricular areas throughout the year as they are integrated into other areas. Physical education will be twice per week throughout the school year (Students need to have gym shoes to keep at school)
Parking and the Roof We have had a lot of rainy days over the past few weeks which has slowed down the roof project. When you arrive to school you will notice materials and trucks in the parking lot next to the school building. Please be cautious as you enter the parking lot and come to the front door. Below is a map of our parking lot showing where you should park and drive. Starting on Tuesday, the first day of classes we will have our orange cones out to create a horseshoe for families that are dropping off their children at the front door. Construction on the roof will continue our first week of school and probably a bit longer based on weather. Our interior is secure but we might hear the workers walking on the roof. The new roof was badly needed and has been tested lately. We have not had any leaks under the new roof, praise the Lord!
