REFLECTION ON SAINT JOSEPH: "A RIGHTEOUS MAN" Thinking about what to write about Lord Saint Joseph, in this month in which the Church celebrates him, a beautiful thought came to my heart, which I believe can help us a lot. During the year, we have two feasts dedicated to Saint Joseph, on March 19, which is titled Saint Joseph, chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, and on May 1, as Saint Joseph the worker. Thinking about this March 19, I would like to offer this reflection. Joseph undoubtedly loved Mary, and inside he surely had a great conflict when he found out that she was expecting a child that was not his, he, being a righteous man decides to secretly abandon her, to prevent Mary's dignity from being trampled, not only because of the gossip, but because of the death that awaited her, let us remember that if a woman had a child out of wedlock, she was stoned to death. The love that Joseph has for Mary is an honest and committed love, he does not want to discredit her in public because he does not conceive that she should suffer such a terrible and shameful fate, he thinks of running away from her because he prefers shame for himself same. Within his heart he finds the strength, the motive and the reason not to condemn her, and he decides to safeguard Mary and the little baby that was already forming in her womb, because he is a “righteous man”. In fact, in the Gospel we do not find great and prolonged descriptions of Saint Joseph, only this quote in which he defines him as a "righteous man" (Matthew 1:19). “Righteous”, in its biblical meaning, is one who is open to God; he is the person who knows how to see with amazement the action of God in his life and in the world. “Righteous” is the one who adjusts his life to the demands of the Word of God. And this, dear brothers, is Saint Joseph. Joseph, because he was a man who sought to know and carry out the will of God, he, saves Mary from his heart, he does not see her as an object of his belonging, since he recognizes her dignity as a person and woman, image and likeness of God. And God who knows Joseph, reveals himself to him in a dream, saying not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, because what is conceived in her is the work of the Holy Spirit. Joseph takes Mary and their child with him, he grants them the dignity of family, he is the head before society, the father who grants the protection and security they required. And so he becomes the adoptive father of Jesus, forming part of God's salvific plan. Dear brothers, just like Saint Joseph, we are all called to live with a heart open to God, with a righteous heart, that does not judge our brother, that does not see him as a threat, but knows how to observe, meditate, pray and discern according to God's will. In these days that we are experiencing the disaster of war, Saint Joseph intercede for us, for our families, so that like him we may be people of justice and peace. Beginning with our family relationships, where each one of the members: husband, wife, children, siblings, know how to recognize in the other the profound dignity of him, where he finds space for acceptance and not rejection; where the virtues of patience and listening, forgiveness and reconciliation are lived. A place where we can grow together as a family, following the example of the Nazareth family. And starting from our small family nucleus we can bring peace to our world. Sr. Claudia Sanchez Jauregui, FCJ PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR CATECHUMENATE RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) We invite our parish community to pray for the following members of RCIA adult, teenage and children programs. These members have been preparing since last year and will be fully welcomed into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.
