ST. HYACINTH CATHOLIC CHURCH Fifth Sunday of Easter - May 19, 2019 2921 Center Street, Deer Park, Texas 77536 (281) 479-4298 www.sthyacinth.org
Fifth Sunday of Easter May 19, 2019 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ In this week’s Gospel, Jesus gets to the point: “Love one another as I have loved you.” We are reminded that the proof of discipleship is not how right we are but how loving we are. If we are to follow Jesus’ commandment to love one another, then we have to share the love that God has for us with the world and practice forgiveness and mercy. Let us pray for the self-giving, compassionate love of Jesus to transform the world. I want to thank everyone who made possible and participated in our Spring Festival 2019. The entire complex was packed with booths, and games. I think that everyone who attended had a great time. Due to the power outage last week, this has delayed our systems and we are still currently working on the results, and will have the final tallies to you soon. We are in the process of organizing a Pilgrimage to Italy for October 2019. We plan to visit the cities of Venice, Padua, Siena Macerata, Florence, Assisi and Rome. From the dates of October 7th -18th, 2019, we will be visiting historical religious sites and museums along with celebrating Mass throughout the tour. Tour information flyers are in the Narthex, or on our website: Sthyacinth.org. Click Parish Pilgrimage 2019 under the Parish Life tab, and/or you can contact the parish office at 281-479-4298. There will be a special information session about the pilgrimage on Wednesday, June 5th at 7pm in Meeting Room 2. Summer is almost here and that means Vacation Bible School. Registration has begun for this yearly event which will be held July 8TH-12TH in Guyot Hall. This year’s theme will be “Roar: Life is Wild - God is good.” This VBS event is a wonderful time for our young people to explore their relationship with Christ and the Church. Last year VBS had over 170 kids participating along with over 50 teen and adult volunteers helping our young people grow in their relationship with Christ and the Church. Please continue to pray for the young people of our parish. As we gear up for the summer, I want to make you all aware of the 2019 Annual Archdiocesan Youth Conference which takes place this year on July 26th - 28th at the Hilton Americas Hotel/ George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston under the theme “Surrender to God” The primary focus for A.Y.C. is to rejuvenate the faith life of our youth, to help them get serious about life in Christ and His Church, and to learn the truth of the Gospel. Registration for A.Y.C. 2019 is currently underway. If you would like to sponsor a young person for this event, contact our Faith Formation office. My Job as Pastor is to encourage you to enter a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I want to encourage you to use FORMED.org the online resource for exploring the Catholic Faith. The Password for our parish is: 77GVZ3. There are two studies on FORMED.org, for rest of Easter, that I am challenging everyone to be a part of: The first study is called: Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist. It explores the truth and beauty of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred Scripture, to its profound role in the life of the Church and her members. It is the story of salvation. The next offering is: Divine Mercy: The Second Greatest Story Ever Told. Renowned speaker and author, Fr. Michael Gaitley, tells the dramatic history of God’s love and mercy as interwoven through the transformative message of St. Faustina, the miraculous appearance of Mary at Fatima, the witness of Maximilian Kolbe and the world-changing papacy of Pope St. John Paul II. Featuring cinematic artistry of the Augustine Institute’s film studio, the vast panorama of God’s work of mercy in the world unfolds as a story to be experienced. For 54 years, St Hyacinth has been building on the foundation of God’s promise of unconditional love for all people. We stand on the shoulders of the saints who have gone before us, and from this remarkable vantage point, we see what we must do to continue sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and welcoming all people to join us on this incredible journey. Together we will continue Building Faith, Family and the Future….. Our Sanctuary…. Our Home. . Coming this June, we will give everyone an update on the future direction of our campaign. God Bless Fr. Reginald Samuels [PAGE 2]
