THE ST. LUKE LETTER May 2021 Dear Siblings in Christ, Alleluia, Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed, Alleluia! Spring is well on its way. Warmer days have become greater than the chilly and cold ones. Flowers are blooming and trees are gaining buds and leaves. It is a beautiful and wonderful reminder that God is good and provides a wide variety of color and texture to keep our world interesting and beautiful in its diversity. This month at St. Luke we will be resuming the 8:00 am worship service on May 9 th and will hold both the 8:00 and 10:30 am indoor worship services. We hope that you will come back to the in- person worship community to be filled and renewed with God’s love and reminded of the community of faith of which we are all a part of. Knowing that not all may be comfortable with returning to indoor activities yet, we will continue to offer Zoom Worship at 10:30 am. If there is interest in offering Zoom at 8:00 am, please let Pr. Becky know. Worship at Home will also continue to be offered for the time being. The Spiritual Committee will be looking at ways to update the worship service to continue to be as safe as possible and have worship be as fulfilling as possible, including looking at ways to reimagine distribution of Communion. We know that for the past nine months Communion has not been ideal; however, safety and God’s amazing love and grace have been our considerations in the logistics of worship. If you have recommendations for how we can adjust worship practices to still be safe amid our Covid-19 reality and better fulfill your connection with God’s gift of love, please contact Pr. Becky or a member of the Spiritual Committee: Susan Stover, Alice Cromwell or Deb Frazier. Thank you for your continued understanding and grace as we navigate a new normal that considers all people’s health and wellbeing. Yours In Christ, Pr. Becky Horn Are you or a loved one desiring a visit from the pastor? Please contact Pastor Becky if you would like her to call or visit you at home, in the hospital, or another location. QUESTIONS TO PONDER – What is a Spiritual Gift or even Talent Gifted by God? Spiritual Gifts are listed in the Bible as specific extraordinary gifts from God that people have been given so that they are able share, help, love, and care for neighbors to the glory of God. They are administration, apostleship, discernment, encouraging/exhorting, evangelism, faith, giving, hospitality, knowledge, leadership, pastor/shepherding, prophecy, perceiving, teaching, serving/ministry, showing mercy, and wisdom. Talents gifted by God are the things that you are passionate about, the things you love to do, and the things that you are perhaps good at, but maybe not a professional. Your talents might not seem to fit into the categories of ‘Spiritual Gifts’ and yet God has created you as an amazing human being who is gifted in so many ways. These too can be used for the benefit of all to share, help, love, and care for neighbors to the glory of God. What are your Spiritual Gifts, what are your Talents? Come talk to Pr. Becky or a Council Member to find ways to share what God has given to you. In Person Worship at St. Luke: Beginning on Mother's Day, May 9th, St. Luke will return to two weekly In-Person worship services at 8:00am and 10:30am (May 2nd will be 10:30am only). Covid-19 procedures will continue to be in place with your temperature taken, a few questions and a limited attendance of 45 people per service. The church will be sanitized between services. Please enter the main entrance doors only which will open at approximately 7:45am and 10:15am. Please do not attend if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone with covid-19, are awaiting test results, have tested positive in the past 14 days, or have traveled outside your normal routine. Please wear a mask and social distance in the designated pew spaces. St. Luke's Worship Service will also continue to be posted weekly to St. Luke’s YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCndvYdWpi7qSKld6Y8cnHMg Live Worship on Zoom - In addition to St. Luke returning to In Person Worship on Sundays, and St. Luke's pre-recorded online YouTube Service, St. Luke will also offer Live streaming of our Sunday Worship Service over Zoom at 10:30am. Please see the link below to participate: Topic: Sunday Morning Worship Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82737550247?pwd=LzNSTmdVWFU3enlaOEJ2Q0wwaTF4QT09 Meeting ID: 827 3755 0247 Passcode: 201808 One tap mobile +13126266799,,82737550247#,,,,*201808# US (Chicago) +16468769923,,82737550247#,,,,*201808# US (New York) *Please note: A weekly bulletin will be sent via email for those who choose to join via Zoom. It is slightly different than the YouTube Worship at Home bulletin. Groups in St. Luke - Groups that wish to resume using the St. Luke church building must schedule through the Church office and follow the protocols established for worship including wearing masks, remaining physically distant, answering health questions, and taking attendance for contact tracing. Groups must also designate a person to be the 'Cleaning Person.' Prior to the group's use of the building, the Cleaning Person must contact Pastor Becky, Derek Shaffer or Larry Frazier to set up a time to meet and discuss where the cleaning supplies are and learn the cleaning protocols. Once this meeting has occurred, the group may proceed with in person meetings that abide by current St. Luke policy. Currently the limit is 15% capacity for indoor events and gatherings. *Please be sure to see all policies and procedures for groups and in person worship that is posted in the narthex of St. Luke.
Worship At Home—The Worship At Home service continues to be posted on the St. Luke Centre Hall YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCndvYdWpi7qSKld6Y8cnHMg for the foreseeable future. If you desire Communion at home, please contact Pr. Becky so that arrangements can be made. IMPORTANT - Please Note—If you do not have email or online access and would like to receive the printed Worship At Home Mailing, please speak with Pastor Becky or Patty or leave a message at the Church Office at 814-364-9154. Worship Plan: There are several required procedures that we have instituted in order to provide the least risk for gathering as a group. We ask that those who plan to attend any gatherings, including worship, at the church agree to abide by the recommendations for the health of all. Currently, Gov. Wolf has recommended 15% capacity for indoor events and gatherings and Council has agreed to follow the recommendations from the governor’s office. Procedure for In House Worship: A. Entry to the building will be limited to the main front doors. Doors will open approximately 15 minutes before the start of the service. Requirements will include: answering a few questions about any symptoms or exposure to Covid-19, a mask covering the nose and mouth, and having their name recorded for the potential of contact tracing. If a person answers 'Yes' to any of the following questions, they will be asked to not join us inside for worship. They may be given a copy of the bulletin and reminded that virtual worship is available on St. Luke's YouTube channel. a. Do you have any new or worsening onset of any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, chills, body aches, fatigue, headache, loss of taste/smell, eye drainage, congestion? b. In the last 14 days have you traveled outside your normal, daily routine? c. Have you or someone in your household been exposed to someone being tested for COVID-19 or who has symptoms compatible with COVID-19? B. If a person meets the question requirements, but does not have a mask, one will be provided. C. Once in the sanctuary, households will be asked to fill from the front of the church to the back in designated, space out areas. Once seated, people may choose to remove their masks; however it is recommended that they remain on throughout the service. Bulletins will be placed in the approved pews prior to the worship service; households may need to share. If a person has reason to get up during the service and when they go to leave, it is requested that masks be put back on. D. The worship service will be modified to limit time, congregational responses, and singing. We will have some music. People are welcome to hum along, or if so called, to sing 'lightly', but they are requested to wear their mask over their nose and mouth. Communion will be offered as the final part of the service. Elements will be pre-packaged, individual servings of wafer and grape juice. As people are leaving the sanctuary via the front door, they may pick up their Communion elements and partake in their car. E. Pastor Becky will wear a mask throughout the entirety of the worship service. She will lead all of her parts of the service from the pulpit. If we have lectors or worship assistants, we will only have one per service. He or She will be asked to sit near the lectern, either in the transept or the choir loft for the entirety of the service and they will only use the lectern for their speaking parts. When speaking at the lectern they will be asked to wear a mask. If they would like a face shield, one will be available. F. During the worship service, Air Conditioning will remain off. Prior to the worship service we can pre-cool the sanctuary. Sanctuary and external doors will be propped open to increase airflow and dissipation of potential covid-19 particles. G. Exiting the building: if people would like to share in Communion, they can pick up the elements on their way out of the main entry doors. Otherwise, people may leave by the West or South doorways. H. In the parking lot, gathering is discouraged. However, should people want to converse, we ask that they continue to wear their masks. We cannot require them to do so outside of the building.
