NOTICES FROM THE SHIRE OF KULIN WA State General Election Information Saturday 13 March 2021 Kulin Community Resource Centre 38 Johnston Street KULIN WA 6365 Polling station open 8.00am – 6.00pm Postal voting Early voting (by post) is made available at all State elections but is important in 2021 for those who may be uncertain about casting their ballot in person. An application for a postal vote can be completed electronically on the Commission's website (https://www.elections.wa.gov.au/ postal-vote-apply) or a printed form can be requested by contacting the Commission on 13 63 06 and selecting option 2. Ballot papers will be posted to electors from Monday 22 February 2021. If posted by the elector on or before polling day, completed postal packages can be accepted via mail until 9:00am on the Thursday following polling day. Early voting (in person) The WA Electoral Commission is working closely with the WA Department of Health to manage the risks around COVID-19 at the 2021 election, but the constantly changing situation means the WA Electoral Commission cannot plan the lead-up to and the actual election with absolute certainty. Most importantly, the WA Electoral Commission is encouraging everyone who has concerns about attending a polling place on election day to vote prior to election day, either by postal vote or at an early voting centre. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PHOTO COMPETITION WINNER FIONA JASPER FOR THIS AMAZING HOLIDAY SHOT! “Rockingham Beach – near Penguin Island. During one of the most calm evenings, the family decided to go swimming to catch crabs off the shore near Rockingham beach, as the sun began to set our 3 children were playing by the waters edge. I snapped this shadowed picture of my family watching the sunset over the water. Made for a pretty special memory.” -Fiona Jasper Fiona has won a voucher for Acres of Taste for this stunning shot, very well deserved. Thank you to all who entered our Competition, the photography talent in this town is very strong. Keep an eye out for our next competition! PAGE 4

KULIN DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL At Kulin District High School, there are 136 kids enrolled, 46 of those being in the High School! That is the highest number of students the High School has had in years. Joining us in 2021 we have Eliza Edinger (teaching High School English and HASS), Ross Woolf (teaching High School Maths and Science), and Zoe Perfit, (teaching Year 2/3). This year KDHS also has Reet Joy, a School Chaplin coming into town every Tuesday, working with students and families. Returning to Kulin after leaving in 2012, Miss Gill Irvine teaches digital/technology and works with the Year 5-10s. The school finally has a teacher working in the blue shed! Familiar faces at KDHS include Mrs Steph Bradford (teaching Home Economics for the High School), and Mrs Hayley Browning (teaching Media for the High School). There are several exciting things for everyone to look forward to this Term. The Faction Swimming Carnival on the 26th of February, Mental Health Training in First Aid for High School students and staff in week 7, and the High School Belongingness Camp in week 8. Kulin District High Schools New Teachers Eliza Edinger graduated High School in 2011 and spent her gap year volunteering in Tanzania (Africa) teaching Maths and English to orphans. This was where she found her love for teaching children. So in 2016 she moved to Melbourne and started her Teaching degree. After graduating in 2020, Miss Edinger moved back to Perth and was hired by KDHS in the fifth week of School Term 4. Her first impressions of Kulin were that it was extremely hot, a very small town and she couldn’t believe there was no pharmacy. Miss Edinger found her first weeks daunting because everyone knew each other and she felt like an outsider, as everyone knew what Eliza was here for but no one really knew who she was. Ross Woolf has taught in more than 20 towns including Collie, Kojonup, Ravensthorpe and Newman. Mr Woolf mostly does Fly Squad work, working for normally one term. Mr Woolf ’s interests include trading crypto currency (bitcoin), AFL, and his favourite team is Collingwood. Mr Woolf ’s first impression of Kulin was it is a small dry town with nice facilities including our gym. Zoe Perfit taught in Norseman for 5 years, which is out in the Goldfields. Two of those years were with a Year 2/3 class and the other three years she taught some lower primary classes. Miss Perfits interests include travelling, reading and spending time with her friends and family. Miss Perfits first impression of Kulin came while driving into town along the Tin Horse Highway; she thought the horses were quirky and fun. Photos and article notes by Stella Wade. PAGE 12
