ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH TROY, OHIO Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 13, 2021 WALK BY FAITH Reflection on Mark 4:26-34 Paul tells us that “we walk by faith and not by sight.” What does this mean? We certainly “see” and engage our other physical senses as we encounter the world around us, understanding what we encounter in all the normal, reasonable, and conventional ways. But this way of knowing is not the orientation that is most significant to us. Rather, faith – a way of seeing the “more than meets the eye” – is our primary orientation. We are attentive to God and the movements of grace within created reality. Knowing that God is active, we are always reaching for his presence, open and malleable WEEKLY SCRIPTURE to God’s movement and where it might take us. Sunday, June 13 God initiates, humans respond. As Catholics, we are blessed to have been gifted with our 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time sacramental life. We know that the Seven Sacraments are privileged moments of God’s Ez 17:22-24 grace. We can always encounter God in these sacramental celebrations. But God is also Ps 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16 always reaching out to touch us, initiating his loving presence, in myriads of ways every 2 Cor 5:6-10 day. So we understand faith not so much as a noun, but as a verb – a way of acting, of Mk 4:26-34 seeing, of being in the world that allows us to receive God as God chooses to come to us, and to respond. Monday, June 14 ~ Fr. Jay Weekday 2 Cor 6:1-10 Ps 98:1, 2b, 3ab, 3cd-4 Mt 5:38-42 Tuesday, June 15 Weekday 2 Cor 8:1-9 Ps 146:2, 5-6ab, 6c- 7, 8-9a Mt 5:43-48 Wednesday, June 16 Weekday 2 Cor 9:6-11 Ps 112:1bc-2, 3-4, 9 Mt 6:1-6, 16-18 Thursday, June 17 Weekday SAINT ANTONY OF PADUA Feast Day: June 13 • Patron Saint of Lost Articles 2 Cor 11:1-11 Ps 111:1b-2, 3-4, 7-8 Born in 1195 in Portugal, Antony of Padua entered monastic life at the age of fifteen Mt 6:7-15 and joined the Order of St. Augustine. Stirred to be like the Franciscan martyrs from Morocco, Antony decided to dedicate his life to spreading the Word of the Lord. Antony Friday, June 18 became the patron of recovering lost items because of the celebrated story of his Weekday lost prayer book. The beloved volume went missing, stolen by a young monk. Antony 2 Cor 11:18, 21-30 prayed to find the lost book and suddenly an apparition came to the thieving monk, Ps 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7 ordering him to return the property to Antony. The book was rightfully restored to its Mt 6:19-23 owner. Since then, throughout the ages, Antony has been looked to for aid in finding lost articles. Saturday, June 19 Dear St. Antony, Weekday You are the patron of the poor and the helper of all who seek lost articles. 2 Cor 12:1-10 Help me find the object I have lost so that I will be able to make better use Ps 34:8-9, 10-11, 12-13 Of the time I will gain for God’s greater honor and glory.
