Welcome to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 10, 2021 ~ Our Mission Statement ~ We, the Roman Catholic Parish of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, joyfully worship together to give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God. We are called by the Holy Spirit to proclaim and to live the gospel message through the sacraments and to spread the message of Jesus Christ by living out the example of God’s power in our lives. GIFTS In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Adoration will be on Friday, November 5 after the 8:00am Mass until 4:00pm. The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, October 11 for COLUMBUS DAY.

Our parish has joined a Catholic website called FORMED. This website is loaded with articles, videos, eBooks, and much more—all of which are thoroughly Catholic. You simply go to this website: https:// formed.org (This is a secure site, which is why there is an “s” in the address). Once there, there will be a spot to enter our parish access code, which is 6MMWKC. We have unlimited access to everything on the site. I hope that you take advantage of this site, and pray that it will be beneficial to you. Fr. Pastor’s Letter My brothers and sisters, in this Sunday’s Gospel, our Lord says, “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” It is unfortunate, but some believe that Jesus is saying rich people won’t enter the Kingdom of God; this couldn’t be farther from the truth! He never said it was impossible for the rich to enter the King- dom; it’s just difficult. My brothers and sisters, there is nothing wrong with people having wealth; for exam- ple, many churches throughout the course of human history, were built, and continue to op- erate, because of the generosity of rich benefactors. Many hospitals and universities were built, and continue to operate, because of the generosity of rich benefactors. Rich people can still go to heaven. However, as our Lord said, it will be easier for a “camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Why? Perhaps, for some people who are rich, the chance exists of their letting money and wealth become their gods; perhaps, they run the risk of becoming so obsessed with wealth that they neglect God and their neighbors. Then again, even the poor, the middle class, or those who live paycheck to paycheck can still make other things their gods, to the extent of neglecting God and their fellow hu- man being. Jesus could have easily said that it could be difficult for anyone—regardless of their state in life—to enter the Kingdom of Heaven; He only singled out the rich in this particular Gospel passage, because it was a rich man who approached Him, and who was dejected be- cause “he had many possessions,” and, we could say, he was possessed by his possessions. We know for certain that our Lord makes it clear: to enter into His Kingdom will be difficult for all of us. After all, He did say, “…the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow the gate and con- stricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.” My brothers and sisters, the cold, hard reality is that the obtaining of eternal life will be a challenge for all of us; it will be difficult, but NOT impossible. Our Lord gives us an ample amount of time and the means necessary to make things right in our lives. However, we don’t have eternity to get things right; He will come a knock- ing one day, perhaps sooner than we would like. So, if you try your best to avoid sin and do good, to go to confession if you happen to fall, and receive our Lord as often as you can—especially on Sundays and Holy Days—then you are definitely on the right track to eternal life with our Lord! God bless all of you! Fr. Patrick Please consult the bulletin for deadlines, if you would like something in the bulletin. The usual deadline for things in the bulletin is MONDAY, BY NOON, unless otherwise stated. Please send the item/article that you would like to see in the bulletin to Mary at annunciationbvm-aurora@rockforddiocese.org or mglosson@rockforddiocese.org. If it is a document, please make sure that it is created in Word. If it is a pic- ture, please make sure that it is in black and white. Also, if you would like something announced at any or all of the weekend Masses, please email Mary at annunciationbvm-aurora@rockforddiocese.org, or mglosson@rockforddiocese.org, no later than WEDNESDAY EVENING, BY 4:00PM. If you would like both an announcement and a bulletin item/article, please send two separate emails, one for the announce- ment, one for the bulletin item/article. Finally, if anyone needs to use the church, or the parish patio or basement, please call Mary for the availability of these areas.

What is the attitude of the Church toward the sick? Having received from the Lord the charge to heal the sick, the Church strives to carry it out by taking care of the sick and accompanying them with her prayer of intercession. Above all, the Church possesses a sacrament specifically intended for the benefit of the sick. This sacrament was instituted by Christ and is attested by Saint James: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call in the presbyters of the Church and let them pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14-15)
