Divine Service Setting One, page 151 T Confession and Absolution T Confession, to confess to God our sins and sinful nature. Absolution, “To absolve of sin and wrongdoing,” more specifically, to affirm God’s forgiveness to all who sincerely confess their sins to Him. The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. Invocation Matthew 28:19b; 18:20 P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. Exhortation 1 John 1:8–9 151 P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination. Consider: Have you loved God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength? Have you loved your neighbor as yourself? Confession of Sins LSB 151 P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Absolution [John 20:19–23] LSB 151 P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.
Service of the Word Introit Psalm 24:7–10; antiphon: Psalm 118:26 P Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the LORD! C We bless you from the house of the LORD. P Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, C that the King of glory may come in. P Who is this King of glory? C The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle! P Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, C that the King of glory may come in. P Who is this King of glory? C The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory! P Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the LORD! C We bless you from the house of the LORD.
Kyrie Mark 10:47 152 A Greek phrase meaning, “Lord, have mercy!” A brief prayer not only imploring God’s mercy but rejoicing in it through Jesus Christ. P In peace let us pray to the Lord. P For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. P For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord. P For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. P Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.
Salutation and Collect of the Day “Salutation” is a word from Latin meaning, “to greet.” "Collect" (KAH-lekt), a brief structured prayer, usually consisting of five parts: address to God, basis for the prayer, petition, desired benefit or result, and trinitarian conclusion. The Collect of the Day also "collects" the message of the day's Gospel reading. P The Lord be with you. P Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His great humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Old Testament Reading Zechariah 9:9–12 A The Old Testament Reading is from Zechariah, chapter 9. 9Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Epistle Philippians 2:5–11 A The Epistle is from Philippians, chapter 2. 5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Stand
Holy Gospel Mark 11:1-11 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the tenth chapter. 1Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” 11And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Nicene Creed Creed comes from the Latin “credo” which means “I believe." We confess our Christian faith in one of the three creeds (short statement of belief) agreed upon by the ancient church. C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life Tof the world to come. Amen. Service of the Sacrament Preface 2 Timothy 4:22; [Colossians 3:1]; [Psalm 136] LSB 160 P The Lord be with you. P Lift up your hearts. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Proper Preface (Full) P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who accomplished the salvation of mankind by the tree of the cross that, where death arose, there life also might rise again and that the serpent who overcame by the tree of the garden might likewise by the tree of the cross be overcome. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:
Sanctus Isaiah 6:3; Matthew 21:9 161 (SAHNK-toose),"Sanctus" is Latin for "holy". Prayer of Thanksgiving 161 P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen.
Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:9–13 LSB 162 P Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” Pax Domini John 20:19 163 (PAKS DOH-mee-nee), Latin for "peace of the Lord" (John 20:19). P The peace of the Lord be with you always.
Agnus Dei John 1:29 LSB 163 (AHG-noose DAY-ee). A Message from the Stewardship Committee In March 2020, our church set up an Emergency Assistance Fund for families under financial stress due to the pandemic -- and many were able to give all or a portion of their government relief payments to help this effort. By the grace of God, we were able to meet all of the requests. A new door has opened with another round of relief payments. After studying scripture, the Stewardship Committee and Church Council concluded it would a tremendous blessing to reduce our building debt of approximately $218,000. If you/your family are not in need, we ask you to consider using a portion or all of your upcoming stimulus payment to help reduce the debt. Prayerfully consider what you can donate by cash, check, or PushPay (select the “DEBT RETIREMENT” fund), or text CHRISTLCMS to 77977. “Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another.” (Romans 13:8)

Thank You I wanted to thank all the members of Christ Lutheran for their concerns, thoughts and especially prayers. Officially, I was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs and ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome). I was tested for Covid six times and had two serology tests while in the hospitals… all were negative. Over the past 7 months, I’ve become convinced that my recovery was only by God’s grace through the prayers of family and church family and friends. -- Martin Eckhardt Remembered in our Prayers Charlie P., Alice M., Luke H., Betty C., Julie J., Don L., Brittian K.(Sondra K.’s grandson), Lance L., Jerry M., Bob T., Jean B. The Son of David Ascends His Throne and Reigns in Love from His Cross The Son of David comes in gentle humility, “sitting on a donkey’s colt,” yet as the King of Israel “in the name of the Lord” (John 12:13–15). He comes to be lifted up in glory on the cross in order to cast out “the ruler of this world” and draw all people to Himself (John 12:23–32). The Church is thus called to “rejoice greatly,” because her King comes with salvation, and “he shall speak peace to the nations” (Zech. 9:9–10). As He is anointed “beforehand for burial” (Mark 14:8), He also ascends His royal throne as “the King of the Jews” by way of His Passion (Mark 15:2, 17–19, 26). He goes “as it is written of him,” wherefore “you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power” (Mark 14:21, 62). For the glory of God is love, which crescendos in the humble obedience and voluntary self-sacrifice of the Son of God for the salvation of sinners. So, God the Father has “highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name” (Phil. 2:9), that He might reign over us in love with the forgiveness of His cross. But no king had ever come to wage battle by dying. In His Passion, our Lord Jesus gives everything He has and is; He does this to bring us from death to life and to make us His own people. And He also does all this to show us an example of self-giving love for us to follow.
