ST. Matthias' Anglican Church Westmount, qc September 5th, 2021 Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost St. Matthias’, our spiritual home, is located in the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee & Anishinaabeg. Prayers for the Morning The Minister shall read aloud these Sentences of the Scriptures that follow. O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: let the whole earth stand in awe of him. Redeem thy misspent time that's past, and live this day as if thy last; improve thy talent with due care; for the great day thyself prepare. Let all thy converse be sincere, thy conscience as the noonday clear; think how all-seeing God thy ways and all thy secret thoughts surveys. Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart, and with the angels bear thy part, who all night long unwearied sing glory to the eternal King. The Minister, turning to the people, shall say the Exhortation.
DEARLY beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness of the same by his infinite goodness and mercy. A general Confession to be said of the whole Congregation with the Minister. Merciful God, you have called us to live lives worthy of the calling to which we have been called. But we confess to you and each other that we have not always spoken the truth in love; we have not always made every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Forgive us and, by your grace, help us to grow in every way into him who is our head, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Absolution, or Remission of sins, to be pronounced by the Priest alone. The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen. Minister. OUR LORD Jesus Christ said: hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. People. Reflection Intercessions A General Thanksgiving, to be said by the Minister and people together ALMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies, We your servants do give you most humble and heartfelt thanks For all your goodness and loving kindness to us and to all people: We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your in- estimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And we beseech you, give us that due sense of all your mercies, that our hearts may be
unfeignedly thankful, and that we show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, world without end. No doubt, as day breaks, they see the buildings where they wish they could live with their children. They
can steady the coffin of a constellation on their shoulders. They can wreck the air like furious birds, blocking out the sun. Praise the one who frees the prisoners, turning blindness into sight. Praise the one who preached the gospel, healing every dread disease, calming storms and feeding thousands with the very bread of peace. Praise the one who blessed the children with a strong yet gentle word. Praise the one who drove out demons with a piercing two-edged sword. Praise the one who brings cool water to the desert's burning sand. From this well comes living water, quenching thirst in every land. Praise the one true love incarnate: Christ who suffered in our place. Jesus died and rose for many that we may know God by grace. Let us sing for joy and gladness, seeing what our God has done.
