W ELCOME TO IMM A NUEL! We’re so glad you’re here! At Immanuel Anglican Church, our vision is to lift high the Son of God, that all may be drawn to Him. Our mission is to be a spiritual beacon that makes the good news of Jesus visible, tangible and personal for the people of Chicago. We are an Anglican church (par t of the Anglican Church of Nor th America through the Diocese of the Upper Midwest) which means that we embrace ancient practices of Christianity in a way that is accessible to all. Liturgical worship is highly par ticipatory - you are invited to par ticipate as much or as little as you feel comfor table. We believe that anyone can be transformed by encountering the love of Jesus. Through this encounter, countless individuals - throughout the world and through history - have received salvation, experienced healing, become par t of a community, and learned to serve others. We invite everyone into this transforming relationship with Jesus and his Church, whether you grew up in church or are exploring Christianity for the first time. If you are visiting for the first time today, welcome! We can’ t wait to meet you! If you’re here in person, stop by our welcome table to pick up a gift and meet some friendly faces. If you’re joining us online, you can fill out a connection card at immanuelanglican. org/live and let us know how we can follow up with you.

Songs of Worship Living Waters Are you thirsty? Are you empty? Come and drink these living waters Tired and broken, peace unspoken Rest beside these living waters Christ is calling, find refreshing At the cross of living waters Lay your life down, all the old gone Rise up in these living waters There’s a river that flows with mercy and love Bringing joy to the city of our God There our hope is secure, do not fear anymore Praise the Lord of living waters Spirit moving, mercy washing Healing in these living waters Lead your children to the shoreline Life is in these living waters Are you thirsty? The Collect of the Day A special prayer chosen for this day in the church year. celebr ant : The Lord be with you. people : And also with you. celebr ant : Let your continual mercy, O God, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. all : Amen. The Lessons Please be seated. re ader : A reading from the prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel 34:11-16 “For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. 13And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice.” re ader : The Word of the Lord. people : Thanks be to God. 8 IMM A NUEL A NGLICA N CHURCH
Psalm 16 1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. 5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. 7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. celebr ant : Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. people : Amen. immanuelanglican.org 9
Alleluia Please stand for the Gospel reading. de acon : The holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew. people : Glory to You, Lord Christ. Matthew 18:1-14 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 “Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! 8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. 9And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in 10 heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. 12What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. 14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. de acon : . . . God instructs all those who confess faith in Christ and who have been united with him in Baptism to be of the same mind, have the same love, and be in full accord, doing nothing from rivalry or self-conceit, but in humility counting others more significant than themselves. As such, God’s people are called to devote themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Do you covenant to practice this way of life together, as presented in the Scriptures through membership at Immanuel Anglican Church? people : I will, with God’s help. 14 IMM A NUEL A NGLICA N CHURCH

Instructions for Retrieving the Elements: All who are baptized and following Jesus as Lord are invited to participate in Holy Communion. The ushers will dismiss you row by row, beginning with the outer sections and then continuing to dismiss the center section. Apply the hand sanitizer at the small table. You may consume the bread as soon as you are served (the bread is gluten-free, but you may also request a rice-based wafer instead of bread if desired) and then indicate to the second minister whether you will partake of wine or juice. You can drink this immediately or take it back to your seat. If you prefer a sealed juice/wafer set, please select this from the tray in lieu of being served by a minister. If you are not yet baptized or are not currently following Jesus as Lord: Welcome! We’re glad you’re here. You’ll need to exit the row with the others and simply make a loop back to your seat. We encourage you to take this time to sing, pray, and reflect on all you’ve seen and heard.
