I believe it is time we began calling our youth programming something more youth-centric. Our parish youth are not the Church of tomorrow, they are the Church of today and they are young - they are the “Young Church’ of today’. Switching from calling it “Youth Ministry” to “Young Church” is one little way we can make our youth feel more at home at our parish. The name “Young Church’’ conveys to our younger parishio- ners more of a sense of belonging. It con- veys more of the truth that the youth of the parish belong here, they are essential mem- bers of the Church, this is their Church, and they have just as much of a right to be here as their parents and grandparents. Let’s make sure our younger parishioners feel welcome and at home now, so that they want to stick around when they’re older.
