Cultural x Social x Moral x Spiritual Editor’s Letter Catherine Booth Hello, As the penultimate week of the year draws to a close, so does the year of Priory Press and what a great year it has been! We have seen events such as the Fashion Show, Jenga World Record Breaking Attempt and in the past, we have seen events like the Infinite Mile, Arts Extravaganza, Welly Wanging and many more! The list is extensive as I am sure you will agree and many of the events would not have taken place without the handwork of staff and students. A massive thank you must go to those organisers as you have been there to make the academic year special! Coming up, there is the Awards Ceremony for each year group, which is always an event of high priority on the school calendar. Congratulations to all those that have received an award, and for those who haven’t, I hope you will join me in congratulating your peers for their hard work throughout the year. Last week, there was the Arts Extravaganza. The evening, which took place on Wednesday 28th June, was a chance for parents and carers as well as staff and students, to see what members of the drama club, dance groups and artists/musicians from across the school have been getting up to. For more information about the evening, please see the Arts Extravaganza report later in the issue. We hope you have all enjoyed this Academic Year, we certainly have! From all of us in the Priory Press team, we hope you have a great Summer Holiday and we will see you all from the 6th of September for the start of the 2017-2018 academic year! Enjoy the articles, Catherine
Cultural x Social x Moral x Spiritual Film of The Week James Ghest Spider-Man: Homecoming ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ is the newest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also being the third live action iteration of Spider man in just 15 years. Tom Holland now portrays the young web slinger, replacing Andrew Garfield from the ‘Amazing Spider-man’ series. The film focuses on more of a coming of age story than the other films; in this one Peter Parker has already been bitten by a radioactive spider, and is trying to find a balance between saving the world and being a regular teenager. Since this film is part of the MCU, Spider-man is now in the same universe as such other marvel characters as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and others that Marvel Studios have been developing since the original ‘Iron Man’ film in 2008. The film also stars Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr., and has received generally positive reviews with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%.
Cultural Social x Moral x Spiritual Technology News Alastair Niclair Virgin Media Falling On Speeds Virgin Media have not been providing the speeds that they promised. It is due to them signing up too many customers in the same area. It is said that only a fraction of customers are receiving the speed they signed up for. Those affected found problems when they tried to stream video and download games and music even though they had paid for 200Mbps speed. Virgin Media have tried to argue themselves but all they said was that the standard for Wi-Fi to be 100Mbps so it would be no problem. However they have still been false advertising. All Volvos to be Electric or Hybrid The car manufacturer Volvo has announced that all cars released from 2019 will have an electric motor. The carmaker is mostly known for their focus on safety. Volvo plans to release five fully electric models and plans to sell 1 million electric cars by 2025.

Cultural Social x Moral x Spiritual Year 8 News Sophie Harrison The Year 8s have had another busy week with many house events and competitions such as the Infinite Mile and Welly Wanging being introduced. Currently, Alexandria are in the lead for house points, closely followed by Sempringham, but this could all change. The end of the academic year is fast approaching, so if you want to participate in house events to help your house to win, make sure you do so before it’s too late. On Tuesday night, a fashion show organised by Lincs Fashion Company. Members of staff and students went to watch the show, helping to raise money for the NSPCC. Fortunately, the evening was a success, and spectators enjoyed the show. This week, students in different years across the school attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the most amount of Jenga bricks removed in one minute by a pair. The results will be coming in later this week. We hope that everyone who participated enjoyed the event and hopefully someone will break the record! Later this week, an athletics competition will be taking place. Many Year 8s and budding sportsmen and women have been selected to represent the school. Good luck to everyone who is taking part.
Cultural x Social x Moral x Spiritual Year 7 News Josh Lavin The Jenga tournament - update Two weeks ago there was an article created by me about the Jenga competition, then we had a little quantity of information, now we have a larger amounts of information. The world record of most Jenga bricks removed in 1 minute has taken place today during the first lesson of the students. All who were not participating read for the hour that those who took part in the Jenga tournament. You got a minute to practice on one of the practice tables then once called over you will commence participation in the world record attempt. You had 1 minute to take as many bricks from the tower and re-stack without the stack collapsing. Y7 Letters to Welcome Y6 A lovely letter writing process has taken place during this week. The year sevens were writing letters to the probably worried year sixes to comfort them on there quest to settle into the school. They are writing the settling solutions to the problems they had at the start of Year 7. These may or may not apply to the newly made Year sevens but it is still nice to think that someone has been through it all and you aren’t the only one who was scared.
Cultural x Social x Moral x Spiritual Arts Extravaganza Sophie Harrison and Elise Urquhart On Wednesday 28th June, many budding actors took place in the Arts Extravaganza. Performances went on throughout the night, ranging from dancers, soloists and grouped and monologue drama performances in the lecture theatre as well as the black room. Fortunately, the evening was a success, with viewers describing the performances as outstanding. In the New Hall, there were several brilliant dance performances, where students within the school got an opportunity to showcase their array of talents. Brave soloists also took to the stage in the New Hall, providing an entertaining evening for all who spectated. In the cinema room, viewers were given a chance to relax whilst viewing clips taken from the school show with popcorn. The year 8 drama group, who had been preparing their pieces for several weeks before the Arts Extravaganza, performed multiple Shakespeare pieces, including scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night. The GCSE drama group performed a captivating piece called ‘Isolation’, engaging the audience (particularly as several of them were brought up on stage). Monologues performed by Catherine Booth and Cameron Tindall, among others, wowed the audience and they had the opportunity to showcase their talents in the drama field. The range of performances on display provided an entertaining evening. Well done to everybody who took part, and the members of staff who organised the performances, like Mr Craven, who supervised the Year 8 drama group’s performances.
