Classroom Secrets Classroom Secrets Kids is offering free access to everyone until the end of April 2020. The platform is aimed at primary aged children and covers subjects such as maths, reading, grammar and spelling. The platform is really child-friendly so that they're able to access it on their own. Key Text for Linked Learning: ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes Linked Learning: English , Science, Computing and PDW After spending so much time analysing chapter 1, this week children will read the remainder of the story, noticing how the author structures the text. In writing, they will be rewriting a short scene from another character’s perspective, including correctly punctuated speech. The children will also include onomatopoeia, impact sentences, a range of punctuation they have been taught in Year 3 and interesting vocabulary. Children will also complete their PIRA reading test this week. To link their learning together, in PDW, children will be explaining how their actions and the actions of others impact upon others. In science & computing children will be using their knowledge of light and shadows to create a short shadow puppet story (The Iron Man) and will record and edit it using an I- pad. Maths: This week children will go back to thinking about fractions and will revise fractions of amounts and shapes. This week children will also be taking part in standardised tests. Science: See above History: Children will make connections between the Stone Age and Ancient Egypt. Geography: Children will consolidate their learning on locating countries on a map. Computing: See above Music: Children will recap their previous learning around music using the ‘Marvel’ soundtrack. Children will use all musical vocabulary from this term, including tempo, dynamics and layering. Children will continue to learn recorders. ( To be taught at a later date) Art: Children will create a portrait of ‘The Iron Man’ using influences from Pop Art culture. Design Technology: ( To be taught at a later date) PDW: See above R.E: In RE, the children will look at the story of Passover and how Moses parted the Red Sea. P.E: In PE, children will combine all of their skill practice to compete in some short invasion games, playing football, netball , dodgeball and basketball. MFL: Children will construct a basic conversation in French, asking and answering questions, using all of the language they have learned so far. English This week we will finish reading ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. We will be doing some shared reading and will be discussing new, interesting, unusual and unknown vocabulary as we read. The writing task over 2 days will be to re-write part of ‘The Iron Man’ - Chapter One - from another character’s point of view. Pretend you are the seagulls flying over the rocks, and you spot the Iron Man in pieces. What do you think? What do you say? What do you do? Challenge! Can you include some correctly punctuated speech in your writing? 3

Can you use a program (like Paint) on your computer, to paint the roboots face – using dots – in the Roy Lichrenstein style? Then you can use the page below to create four different designs in the style of Lichtenstein. Try experimenting with a range of contrasting, bright colours or different sizes of dots, or even different mediums (like pen, pencil, paint, chalk) or different tools (cotton buds, finger tips, pen thicnknesses) to see which style you prefer… 6

Remember that in Year 4 you will need to know all of the times tables up to the 12s. 1

The Euro Debate. What would be the benefits for the United Kingdom? What would be the negatives? Make sure your argument is organised, persuasive and confident! 5
