Dear Applicant,

Welcome and thank you for showing interest in our school. We hope that the information provided
in this pack is helpful. In addition to this booklet, visits to the school are welcome and highly
recommended; this would provide an opportunity to see the school in action and ask any
questions you may have.

We are very proud of the development and growth of the school so far and plan to both sustain
current achievement and move the school even further forward. We are a church school and so
we believe our Christian values of Love, Respect and Courage underpin everything we do in our
school.

Please see the attached job description and application form.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely

Michelle Marsh

School Details

Saint James CoE Primary School is located in West End, Hampshire. The school has been
expanding each year towards becoming a three-form primary school. In September 2021, Year 6
will become 3-form and our expansion will be complete, providing 21 classes across the school!
The school has completed an extensive building project to provide extra accommodation for the
increased number of children, including a new building, extended hall and an enclosed sports
‘MUGA’. We are very proud of the facilities now available for the Saint James children.

The vast majority of the children have some pre-school experience at local playgroups and
nurseries. Staff visit children in their preschool setting to collect information and there is also a
carefully planned transition programme to help children and their parents get to know us before
they start school.

There are ample and well developed grounds including good size playgrounds, play equipment,
enclosed sports ‘MUGA’, a large field and an environmental area including a pond which is used
for outdoor education.

The school sets high standards in all areas of its work and there is a close relationship between
school and St James Church in West End. We have a successful school association called SJSA
and very supportive Governors. Our Saint James team are ‘life-long learners’ and highly
supportive of each other as colleagues, new staff members are warmly welcomed.

The school was categorised as “Good with outstanding features” OFSTED in November 2018.

Core Values
At Saint James CoE Primary School we believe that children come first and parents deserve a
high level of customer service. In order to achieve our aims we have established a community
within which children, teaching and support staff, governors and parents work together to help
each other to learn and develop. Our core values are Love, Respect and Courage. These values
underpin everything we do and are deeply embedded throughout school life.

                                            Our Vision
Let your light shine Matthew 5:14-16

At Saint James everyone is considered unique and loved by God. We will be a vibrant place
of learning and growth, where ambitious teaching and compassionate relationships means
everyone flourishes; thereby equipping our children for fullness of life, allowing their light to
shine as beacons of hope. In doing so, we help our children and each other to build
a better, inclusive world of love, respect and courage.

Curriculum Intent

The curriculum is designed to ensure all children are challenged and inspired. We are constantly
reviewing and improving our curriculum, to best meet the needs of the Saint James children. We
want children to grow into positive, responsible adults, who can work and cooperate with others,
while at the same time developing their knowledge and skills, in order to achieve their potential.
We want learning to be meaningful and memorable, so pupils are ready and enthusiastic for the
next steps in their journey.

Curriculum, delivery and organisation

The curriculum at Saint James Primary School is rich, balanced and diverse. Much work is being
done to link subjects to make learning more meaningful and motivating for the children. We also
weave in opportunities to support intergenerational work, the local community, developing good
mental health, and global citizenship. Our curriculum is always evolving and we welcome new
ideas to challenge and inspire the children.

We believe that learning should be engaging and that learners should have access to first hand
experience. We endeavour to make learning relevant and purposeful and to give children
ownership of their learning though being given choices. We want the children to be challenged
and supported at just the right level, so we encourage lots of discussion, feedback and flexibility.

Expectations are high for behaviour and attainment and there are good attitudes to learning.
Children have opportunities to work independently (both collaboratively and individually) and they
are encouraged to develop a range of thinking skills and learning styles. We strive to make sure
the learning environment is stimulating so that it supports learning effectively.

Teaching Staff Structure

The school currently has capacity for 654 places for September 2021. The school is organised into
21 classes, with three classes in each of the seven year groups.

Year R children have three connected classrooms, with communal spaces and access to their own
outdoor learning space. The other year groups all have classrooms on the ground floor with doors
leading to outside spaces.

The school currently employs a significant number of LSAs, many full-time, as we strongly believe
that this is the best possible resource we can offer the Saint James children. Additionally, Higher
Level Teaching Assistants are used to cover PPA and management release time wherever
possible. The children are also supported by our school chaplain, ELSA, Pastoral leader and
SENCo.

The leadership team comprises of: Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher
supported by SENco and three other senior leaders (these positions include the Maths leader and
the English leader).

The Governing Body

We have an outstanding governing body representing parents, staff, local authority and the local
community. Their commitment was complimented during our recent OFSTED inspection.

The Governing Body currently has two committees: Curriculum and Standards, and Resources
(who deal with finance, human resources and buildings). The full Governing Body meets four
times per annum and the committees once per term.

Our Governors expect to work in partnership with the Headteacher and the Leadership Team.
They value an open and honest relationship based on involvement, mutual respect and an
awareness of the need for trust and confidentiality.

Our Community

Our community is a place where;

 Children love to learn, are encouraged to think of their own ideas and are supported to achieve
    their best.

 Each child is valued and opportunities are created for success.

 There is a friendly, stimulating environment in which there is a culture of trust, respect,
    responsibility and independence.

 Parents are welcomed into the school as partners.

 There is a rich, broad and balanced curriculum which is supported through a wide range of
quality learning resources and outdoor facilities.

 Staff support each other as colleagues and promote an ethos of all being ‘life-long learners’.

 Where everyone is valued and encouraged to achieve their best, together.

                                              “Let your light shine… “
