Dear Parents/Carers

On Monday we had a visit from Richard Lancaster from Greenpeace.
Years 2 - 6 enjoyed a very informative session about the plight of the
Rainforests and especially the plight of the orangutans – he shared the
story ‘There’s an Orangutan in my Bedroom’. The children were very
interested and wanted to ask lots of questions!

The NSPCC also visited us this week to do assemblies with the children about ‘Speak
Out, Stay Safe’ along with their mascot Buddy and his speech bubble. They will be
coming back again on 28 November to present workshops with Years 5 and 6.

Learning highlights this week...
Diamond class had an exciting week! They went in search of the Gruffalo! They really enjoyed
themselves, they found the fox in his underground home, the owl in his treetop house and the snake
in a log-pile house!

Opal Class told me that they have really enjoyed their phonics this
week and the story of ‘The Giant Jam Sandwich’. They also enjoyed
some visitors this week, Amber’s mum, Ivy’s mum
and Mrs Bellingham's husband all came in to talk to the children
                               about their very important jobs.

Topaz Class were very enthusiastic about their RE lessons with
Mrs Curme - they are learning about the life of Jesus.
In DT they made and tested little cars -
they are amazing, and they had great fun
working out which ones travelled the best.

Amber Class have really enjoyed reading ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’
as their class novel - they have loved being read to by Mrs Richards!

Sapphire Class are learning about Space and have recently talked about the
famous Apollo Moon Landings. They watched films and discussed their
thoughts around this historic event.

Emerald Class have really loved reading ‘Cogheart’ with Mrs Bennett. They
have stopped at an exciting point and are about to write a new chapter of
their own. I am so pleased that so many children are
enthused about reading! Music to my ears!

Casey in Year 4 recommended this book to me. He was very excited to show
                       me it...thanks Casey!
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is an extensive introduction to the

Our Learners of the Week

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Children In Need Day last Friday we
raised a grand total of £295.96.

Great games were played with the abundance of leaves we have
falling in our forest area last week. The children were then
allowed to have some time building bug houses/dens ready for
the “big build” later in the term.

Happy Friday everyone,

We had the first of our CHRISTMAS CRAFT EVENING’s on Wednesday. This was a
great success, the children seemed to really enjoy themselves although having a biscuit was generally
on their minds throughout – below/attached are a few pictures of some of their creations! Our second
evening is on Monday (26 November) we will collect the children booked in, straight from their
classrooms – parents please note we have changed collection time to 4 15 pm unless you have stated
your child is going to afterschool club as they seemed to complete the tasks quicker than we initially
thought. With outlays, this event has raised £62.98, thank you for your support on both evenings.

After school today is our early end of the month TUCK SHOP don’t forget a little bit of change,
prices range from 20p - £1 – please see our Facebook page for more details. Sadly, we had very few
Christmas jumpers or tops donated so we will not be selling these this year and storing for next, so if
you discover some at home or any looking tight after the Christmas festivities we will welcome your
donations in the New Year.

Today was the cut off point for your UNWANTED BELONGINGS. We have around 50 bags full, so
we’ll let you know how much this raised in next week’s newsletter.

Next Thursday 29 November is the CHRISTMAS PARTY (DISCO) KS1 - 5 pm - 6 pm and
KS2 - 6 15 pm -7 15 pm – please get your forms back to us with £2.50 ASAP for advance tickets, or
can be bought on the night for £3 with full contact details for parents/carer supplied. At the end of the
session please ensure that your children are collected by an adult and on time. No children including
Year 6 will be released until a parent/carer collects them. Please note if a sibling is collecting on
behalf of an adult/carer we must be informed before or during the disco. Please note NO MOBILE
PHONES allowed.

We are also looking for businesses to donate prizes for our Christmas raffle – any donation,
however small, would be much appreciated; the donors name and prize will be displayed on our raffle
board at the fete.

                                            Facebook
Just a reminder that children of primary school age should not be using Facebook.

                                               E-Safety Reminder
E-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Kingshill Church School.
Any E-Safety incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with our E-Safety Policy.
E-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with you to ensure the
E-Safety message is consistent. Your help is needed to talk to your children about how they can keep safe and
behave appropriately online, which includes not playing any 18+ playstation/Xbox/on line games as this can
lead to inappropriate games and behaviour at playtime.
May I draw your attention to the guidance/advice which is on our website.

We value parental support. Please let us know by e-mail (office@kcs.bwmat.org) calling into
the office or catch us in the playground if you have any comments to make.
