As always it’s been a busy one at CVPS, with Community Day rapidly approaching, Year 5 heading to Bathurst next week and all manner of events, initiatives and programs on the boil. R U OK? Day Thursday 13 September is annual national ‘R U OK?” Day. R U OK? Day is a national day of action dedicated to reminding people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling. Take the time over the course of the day to let someone know you care about their wellbeing by asking them ‘ARE U OK?’ Community Day Community Day is coming up fast and it’s promising to be a cracker, with the usual variety of rides, attractions and delicacies on offer, as well as a few changes from previous events. The best way to enjoy Community Day is to purchase your Megapass and Canley Cash (CC’s) before the day, to avoid queuing. These are available from the office so get in quickly before the cut-off date. Please be reminded that the event is only for CVPS students and non- school age children; students from high schools and other primary schools will not be permitted to attend Community Day, as it is a scheduled school day. Thank you to Mrs McDaniel, Mrs Geer and the Community Day Team for the work they are undertaking to ensure that the event is a rewarding and successful one for the school community. Attendance Procedures A reminder that our new attendance procedures are now in full swing; if your child is late to school he or she is to proceed directly to class, where the arrival time will be recorded. Super Spellers On Tuesday of this week our 4 champion spellers from Years 3-6 represented CVPS at the Regional Spelling Bee Final, having spelled their way to the top of the school competitions. Congratulations to Kevin Chea (4M), Toby Ouch (4K), William Kheav (6M) and Ryan Nguyen (6M) on your performances at Regional level, we’re all very proud of you. Thank you to Mr Johnstone and Miss Lim for their work concerning our school Spelling Bees and to Mrs Najdovska for her assistance at the regional event. 2019 Kindergarten Enrolments Enrolments for Kindergarten 2019 are now being accepted, with transition programs set to commence early in Term 4. If you - or anyone you know - intend to enrol their child in Kindergarten 2019 at CVPS please attend the office and our friendly staff will assist you through the enrolment process. Year 5 Bathurst Overnight Excursion Next week our Year 5 Team are heading to Bathurst from Monday - Wednesday of Week 8 to enhance the impact of their History Unit ‘The Gold Rush’. The students and staff will visit historic sites and places of interests relevant to the concepts taught in ‘The Gold Rush’ and provide them with real-world, hands-on perspective to enhance their learning. Thank you to Mrs Riley, Miss Lim, Miss Lee, Miss Truong, Mr Cung and Mr Johnstone for their willingness to hit the road and provide such a great opportunity for the students; particular thanks must go to Mrs Riley for her work in organising the camp.
School Facebook Page Updates Every Sunday evening our school Facebook page is updated with a ‘What’s On’ post detailing the week ahead. Information regarding excursions, school events, parent workshops, due dates and so on are all posted so keep an eye out every Sunday evening so you remain in the loop for all things CVPS. Choir News On Thursday 30 August our choir were fortunate enough to perform at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Cantabile Festival of Music; what a sensational evening it was! Next Tuesday the choir get to tick another great performance space off their list when they perform at the Primary Proms event at the Sydney Town Hall. Thank you once again to all staff involved; Miss Trieu, Miss Ng, Miss Pham…...I’m really looking forward to yet another stellar performance from our talented students and staff. Athletics Update On Monday of Week 7 a large number of our students represented their school at the Landsdowne Zone Athletics Carnival; congratulations to all students, representing your school is a great honour. Due to their successes on the day a number of our students have earned the right to now represent their zone at next week’s South Western Sydney Regional Carnival at Campbelltown. A number of staff will be attending the carnival and we’re looking forward to cheering our athletes on. Go CVPS! Year 5 Beach Safety Talk Last week the knowledgeable folk from Sea Australia presented Beach Safety Workshops for our Year 5 students in preparation for Term 4’s Beach Safety day excursion. Swimming in a council-operated or backyard pool is one thing, however with waves, tides, sand bars and so on, the ocean is a different beast and needs to be treated with utmost respect. Thank you to Mrs Riley for arranging this important - and potentially lifesaving - experience for our students. Pre Service Teachers We have been hosting 4 pre service teachers from Western Sydney University over the course of the last two weeks, and they’ll also be joining us for Weeks 1-4 of Term 4. Welcome to Miss Jessica Baumgart (4K), Miss Amara Issa (2R), Miss Salma Hussain (KH) and Mr Tommy Lam (5R), we look forward to having you on our team. Have a solid finish to the week and a great weekend. Ben Matthews Principal Wednesday 26thSeptember 2019
Dear Parents, We are already in week 8 and as usual so many things have been going on and are coming up. This week the children have been having their vision checked by the nurses from STEPS vision screening. After your child has had their vision checked, a letter will be sent home to you with the results of the test. If you do not receive a letter by the end of the week please see your child's teacher. This Thursday, 13th September at 9:00am the CLOs have organised for a paediatric nurse to talk to the families about child development. If you have an hour to spare please remain at the preschool to listen to this valuable speaker. Envelopes have been sent out this week about the preschool photos. Please fill out the envelope, place the money inside the envelope and give the envelope to your child's teachers as soon as you can. The preschool photos will be taken at the preschool with the Yellow and Green groups photos held on Monday 24th September and the Red and Blue group photos will be on Thursday 27th September. Don't forget about Community Day! Even though preschool is open on this day families are encouraged to take their preschool children and enjoy a fun filled day together at Community Day. The preschool teachers are unable to take the preschool children out into Community Day so if you choose to leave your child at preschool they will not be participating in Community Day. If you have any questions please speak to your child's teacher. Reminder: Many children are still coming to preschool without their hat. Please remember to check if your child has their hat in their bag each day before coming to preschool.
