UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS FALL 2019- SPRING 2020 Sponsorship Package
OUR MISSION ChE Jeopordy - AIChE Regional Conference 2019 AIChE at the University of Florida is a pre-professional student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. We are a student-run, non-profit organization that strives to promote networking and foster technical skills for the continued advancement of ourselves, our university, and our community. UF AIChE has always prided itself as being the oldest and most popular Chemical Engineering organization at the University of Florida. We have approximately 120 members and have been successfully increasing member involvement for the past year.
This year’s goal is to produce a competitive car that will qualify for the national Chem-E Car competition. UF AIChE is driven to rank in the top 5 universities out of the 13 in the southern CHEM-E regional conference for the first time in 8 years. Unlike previous years, the team has decided to take a systems engineering approach by breaking down the car into individual CAR subsections to eventually coming together to create a record breaking car for the University of Florida. The car is currently scheduled to be assembled on November 16th, 2018 and as of October 3rd, we are 65% towards this goal. 5th out of 18 In the past, Chem-E Car performance has suffered due to lack of resources to perform the proper testing. With your funding, UF AIChE Chem-E Car will have the ability to purchase chemicals for test runs and light-weight Qualified for materials for building that will enhance our competitiveness and help us achieve our goal! 2018-2019 STUDENT POSTER PRESENTORS My research involves the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of SiC films for use in dental prostheses. Presenting at conference has allowed me to practice my presentation skills as well as network with researchers in a vast variety of fields. Jessica Partain 4th Year, Undergraduate My research involves the evaluation of the expression of the epithelial sodium channel in salt sensitive and salt insensitive mice both with and without diabetes. Though my research is biomedically based, the opportunity I had to present at the AIChE regional conference offered me a unique chance to network with chemical engineers working on pharmaceutical bioengineering. Their questions and critiques Whitney Schramm helped me with my project offering another 3rd Year, Undergraduate prospective for me to share with my PI.
My research involves studying 2018-2019 electrodeposition in electrochemical cells STUDENT POSTER to understand the fundamental relationship governing interface instabilities. Through networking at conferences, my research has PRESENTORS allowed me to develop myself professionally and understand the world of industry. Juan Juarez 4th Year, Undergraduate My research relates to the possible implementation of biochar in the wastewater treatment industry. We seek to provide a more cost efficient and environmentally friendly way to treat wastewater. By going to the AIChE conference, I would be able to connect and share these ideas with countless professionals, while cultivating both my knowledge and Nedgine Joseph professional aspirations. 2nd Year, Undergraduate My research is based off of cancer nuclear mechanics. I lost both my grandparents to cancer which has motivated me to go into medical related research. My poster is based off of looking at the chromatin regulators that effect the nuclear shape. Going to AIChE Conference allows me to network with recruiters to be able to get into a good grad school to pursue my dream of becoming tenure track professor with Lauren Paschal medical based research with a focus in cancer. 5th Year, Undergraduate
