Welcome from ISA Sport On behalf of the Independent Schools Association may I extend a very warm welcome to all our competitors, parents, school staff, visitors and officials to the National Cross Country finals. We are delighted to be holding these finals at Rugby School for 2019. Each of the seven regions - North, Midlands, East Anglia, London North, London West, London South and South West have held their own area meetings prior to arriving here today, so all the competitors have already achieved a significant goal by their selection to this prestigious event in the ISA calendar. Every race today is a final which makes the day exciting and nerve-racking for both athletes and supporters. This event is the highlight of the season for many of our competitors. The standard of athletes within the Association appears to be increasing all the time, it is a great honour to welcome everyone attending who have worked so hard to be here. Although there can only be one winner in each event, I do hope that every athlete will leave today feeling that they were able to do their best whatever the result. Staging these championships takes a great deal of organisation and cooperation. I am very grateful to all the staff at Rugby School and to all the teaching staff who support the athletes in their schools, preparing and coaching them. Without officials, none of the events would take place in such a well organised and safe manner. I would particularly wish to thank all our officials for giving their time and expertise to administer the events today. ISA’s own staff have been particularly instrumental in coordinating officials, staff and regions before today’s event and deserve a huge thanks. Without the help of the Area Sports Coordinators and Team Managers this event would not have been possible. They all work tirelessly throughout the year organizing and coordinating their area calendars. These roles are voluntary while they teach full time within an ISA school. ISA is also indebted to Gwilym Price for his unfailing support and advice throughout the process of organising and running this event. Sport is a major part of ISA activity and there is no doubt that the range and quality of the programme is becoming stronger each year. ISA Sport supports inclusion and opportunity, fair play and achieving your best through endeavor and determination. Good luck to everyone today and thank you for supporting ISA’s National Cross Country finals at Rugby School. Scott Brand ISA National Sports Officer Welcome from Rugby School We would like to extend a warm Rugby welcome to all the competitors, spectators and officials for today’s ISA National Cross Country Championships. It is a great privilege to host this prestigious event within the ISA’s sporting calendar. Those who know us well will recognise that Sport features prominently at Rugby. It forms a key element of our community ethos, as learning to win with humility, lose with grace and support all with unfailing encouragement are valuable lessons for life. We wish all the competitors the very best on what we know is a demanding, but hopefully enjoyable course around our beautiful grounds. We’re sure they will rise to the challenge!
