Simon de Senlis Primary Weekly Update – 11th June 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you had a lovely half term break and were able to rest, recuperate and spend time together with family and friends. The children have returned to school noticeably refreshed after the holiday and with smiles on their faces. As usual, they have settled straight back into the routines and have shown their usual determination and drive to succeed. As we now enter the final term of the year, the focus on continuing to develop learning and to apply the knowledge from the year is stronger than ever and the year group staff teams, with their own drive and determination, will be delivering the final parts of the curriculum for the year. This drive from all will ensure that all children are in a great place to begin their learning next year in September. In regard to supporting your child at home during this final term, please continue to complete the weekly key skills activities, read a range of books on a regular basis, practise times tables, number facts and spellings and continue to find out about the focus areas within the wider curriculum. We are all so pleased to be back at school and are so enthusiastic about the term ahead. Please enjoy the weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week. Mrs Fennelly

Simon de Senlis Simon Primary – Weekly de Senlis PrimaryUpdate Issue #1 Miss Garrard says… On Monday 12th July from 7-9pm, Hope for Families will be hosting another Left to their Own Devices event online. This is a fantastic 2 hour session aimed at parents and carers of primary aged children about keeping our children safe online. Parents of teenagers will also find this really helpful! The session covers topics such as gaming, online safety, family values and creating a family media agreement. At the moment, when many of our children are using screens more than ever before, this looks to be a very useful course. Tickets are £7.50 and include all accompanying resources for the session (these will be delivered before the event) and their bursary scheme is open for anyone who qualifies, providing a 50% discount. If you are interested you can book this through the Eventbrite link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/143289345289

Simon de Senlis Primary 11th June 2021 The Big Bee Challenge is Radio 2’s new competition for children. It’s a fun and creative way to learn more about bees and other insects that help provide much of the food we eat, and are essential for a healthy environment. If you are between the ages of 6 and 12, we want you to design a bright, buzzy garden that will attract bees and other pollinating insects. The winner’s design will be built by the RHS at an NHS Trust site which is used by children and young people with mental health needs. The lucky winner will be invited to open the garden at an outside broadcast of The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Friday 20 August 2021! To enter, download a copy of the Big Bee Challenge garden design entry form here You can find out more about the competition here- BBC Radio 2 - Radio 2's Big Bee Challenge - How to Enter

Simon de Senlis Primary Weekly Update 2021 This week, an amazing 124 rocks were painted by children in school which will be added to the display organised by East Hunsbury Parish Council (who very generously donated the resources for this project) and East Hunsbury Rocks to celebrate the birthday of the NHS. The rocks are really colourful and the designs are really creative, I have also received some lovely designs from members of the Art and Craft Club, well done to every one involved! If you wold still like to add to the display please bring your painted rocks to school where I will collect them from your teachers. It is best to use acrylic paint or permanent pens for the design and to help the pattern last, a coat of varnish is recommended but not essential. Please send photos of your rainbow rocks to me through the Teams Page and I will arrange for them to be collected in school soon. I will be setting a new challenge if you would like to be part of the Online Art and Craft Club please do email info@simondesenlis.org. Keep creating! Mrs Egan
