MCESC's Positive Parenting Program, Triple P, to continue through March The Montgomery County Educational Service Center’s Social and Emotional Learning team will continue to offer their new parenting program, Triple P through March. The program is virtual, with each date offering expertise and insight on a different parenting topic. Seminars for parenting both children ages 0-12 and teens 13+ are held via Zoom and any parent in Montgomery County is eligible to attend for FREE! This month’s topics include: - Getting Teenagers Connected - The Power of Positive Parenting - Raising Responsible Teenagers Click HERE for dates, time and registration information. HUBER HEIGHTS CITY SCHOOLS Issue 3.1 | March 7, 2021 Building of the Week: VALLEY FORGE Celebrating Read Across America Week Art is Smart! In Mrs. Nugent’s art class, students have been learning about different artists for Black History Month, including Faith Ringgold, Jean-Michele Basquiat and Jacob Lawrence. Students in grades K-6 learned the history of the artist and about the style of art they created. The students then created their own works of art inspired by the artist of their choosing. This month, art curriculum will be focus on women artists in celebration of Women’s History Month. We have also been hard at work on our Art to Remember project for our fundraising for the art room! Students will be able to purchase items with their artwork on them. Items will include water bottles, facemasks, t-shirts and much more. Most will cost less than $15 and all proceeds will benefit the art program at Valley Forge. On Sale Now! Yearbook orders are due by March 26th and are $15. HUBER HEIGHTS CITY SCHOOLS Issue 3.1 | March 7, 2021 Building of the Week: VALLEY FORGE We've Got Spirit and Kindness Week Valley Forge recently celebrated Kindness Week with daily themes including twin day, hat day and pajama day. Pictured to the left are Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Danielle Clark and Guidance Counselor Mrs. Julie Carter on twin day (hint: they aren’t really twins!). Picture below is the third grade enjoying hat day during their Remote Learning Wednesday. Learning Our Past to Improve Our Future Students in each grade level participated in various activities to celebrate BHM: • 6th Grade ELA: Students read the story, “Watson’s Go to Birmingham.” During the month of February, students participated in a variety of activities to learn more about the climate and struggle of African Americans, particularly in the South in the 1960s (the setting of this novel). • 6th Grade SS: Students participated in a weekly spotlight lesson about an influential African American in history. During the month of March, students will also participate in a weekly spotlight of Influential Women in recognition of Women’s History month. • 4th Grade: Students researched famous African American’s and designed pennants to show their contributions and impact. Remi Brown • 3rd Grade: Students worked on black history reports and were able to choose from a variety of additional activities. Their projects are currently displayed VF Spelling throughout the 3rd grade hallway! • 2nd Grade: Students focused their work on a study of Martin Luther King Jr. Bee Winner and the changes he made in Civil Rights. They also learned about George Washington Carver and discussed his accomplishments as an inventor.
