Swim School Information and Medical Form: Access to the Swimming Centre On swimming lesson days, the enrolled student and accompanying person gain free entry to the centre to attend their booked swimming lesson. With physical distancing requirements considered, it is preferred to limit supervising adults to 1 Adult per student, where possible. We appreciate this is not always practical. Recreation Swimming at the Centre Due to COVID-19 restrictions, recreation swimming around lessons will have limitations. Enrolled students can swim in the recreation space before or after their booked lesson. This time will be limited to 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after their lesson time. We appreciate your assistance with monitoring your child/ren time in the pools to allow for other students to also have a swim. For recreation and lap swimming, on non-lesson days, families will need to make a booking through the online booking system. Availability for recreation and lap swimming is subject to capacity restrictions. Applicable entry fees to be paid when checking in at the front desk, upon arrival for your booked session. When attending a booked recreation swim, enrolled swim school students will receive free entry to the centre with presentation of their swim school pass. All accompanying persons are required to pay normal entry fees, including a spectator fee for non-swimming persons. Children under 4 years entering the water are entitled to free entry, with a full paying accompanying adult. In line with our Watch Around Water policy, accompanying adults are required to enter the water with a child under 5 years and remain within arm’s reach at all times. Supervision ratios apply. Students enrolled into lessons throughout season 20/21 receive free entry to the centre for the duration of the current season. Bookings are required for all recreation swims (outside of lessons) during the specified times. If a student withdraws from lessons, they will no longer be eligible for the free entry and normal fees apply. Please note, the swim school students’ free access is for individual public swimming only. Access to the centre does not include centre bookings such as; school recreation days, carnivals, sporting groups, clubs or other organised programs within the centre. Adult to Child Supervision Ratios Recent changes to the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) have highlighted the supervision ratios for parents /carers whilst supervising children at the Centre. When visiting the Centre the following ratios now apply: Children under 5 (0 – 4 years of age) 1 adult for every 2 children aged 0-4 years (this ratio includes babies in prams). Children must be accompanied in the water at all times by an adult. Season 2020/21
Children under 10 (5 – 9 years of age) 1 adult for every 4 children aged 5-9 years. Children must be actively supervised at all times by an adult. Families and groups exceeding the ratios outlined cannot be permitted entry. Student Behaviour All swim school students deserve the right to a high quality lesson. To assist us in providing the best lesson possible and to ensure the safety of all students, please observe the following: Students are not to enter the water until directed by their swimming teacher. Students leave the lane on the conclusion of their lesson. Recreation swimming is available for 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after a student’s lesson time. (Without an additional booking required.) Bookings must be made, for any recreation swim outside of lesson days and times. Students must listen to and follow the directions given by their swimming teacher. Students not following the swimming teachers directions may be asked to sit out for a short period of time. If there is further disruption to the class, parents are asked to assist ensuring other students in the lesson are not disrupted. A responsible adult needs to be available at all times throughout the lesson. (ie; Parents/carers are not permitted to leave the centre or swim laps while their child is in lessons.) Please speak to a swim school supervisor if you have any queries. Class Assessment Students will be continually assessed throughout the term, by their qualified teacher. The Swim School supervisor on pool deck will also assess students regularly throughout the term. Skills within each level, will be marked off as they are achieved.
