Dear student,
Welcome to the International Study Centre (ISC) at Istituto Marangoni. We are delighted that you have chosen to
study with us and look forward to welcoming you onto the Foundation Year Course (FY).
Arrival
th
You should arrive in the UK no later than Sunday 06 January 2019 ready to start your studies.
Induction Week
All students should arrive at the International Study Centre (ISC) at 11.00am on Monday 07th January 2019, for your
first day. It is important that you attend all sessions during induction week, which will help to prepare you for your
studies and settle you into the UK.
Costs/What you need to bring
In you first week you may not have access to a UK bank account. If not, you will need to bring enough funds for the
first week as follows:
£34.00 for police registration
In the region of £300 for food, entertainment and general living costs until your bank account is opened.
All students must bring the following documents with you on your first day:
Passport
BRP (if you have collected it) and 30 day vignette letter - (only applicable to visa students)
4 x passport size photos
Original IELTS certificate.
We understand that during your first week you may have lots of questions but the team here will be available to help
you with any queries that you have and to give you support and advice on settling into your new
accommodation, life in London and the Foundation Year course.

This overview of the student support available at IMISC will include
information on police registration, registering with a GP, collecting
your BRP and opening a bank account.

This overview of the Foundation Year will include information on the
different units you will study, your timetable, the learning resources
available and support in choosing your pathway option.

11:00 – 12:00 Get to know your classmates social activity with the Student Services Compulsory for
Coordinator, Rohima Ahmed all ISC students
12:00 – 13:00 IT Introduction Talk with Emma Lambert & Rohima Ahmed, including Compulsory for
an overview of email accounts, Study Smart (Virtual Learning all ISC students
Environment) and the use of technology in your learning.
13:00 – 14:00 Lunch
14:00 – 15:00 Student Services meeting including talks from
- Professional Services Manager, Emma Lambert
- Student Services Coordinator, Rohima Ahmed
This overview of student services will include information on the
social programme, welfare support, attendance and the student
voice.

4Police Registration
Registering with the Police, what does this mean?
You may be required to register with the police upon arrival to the UK if you hold a passport from the list of
nationalities below. This will also be listed on your visa in your passport and will state that you must register with the
police within 7 days of arriving in the UK (if you applied for a visa outside the UK) or if you have been issued a new
Biometric Enrolment Permit if you applied for a new visa inside the UK.
Who needs to register?
You will need to register with the police if:
• you are 16 or older
• your visa or permission to stay in the UK is longer than 6 months
• you are a national of one of the below:

*If you’re a student who holds a passport issued by the Special Administrative Region of either Hong Kong or Macao is classed as a Chinese
national and needs to register.
How to register
You will need to take the below documents and information to the police station for your area.
• £34 for the registration fees
• 2 recent passport size colour photographs
• your passport
• your visa “vignette” (sticker in your passport), if you applied outside the UK
• the letter you got from the Home Office when your application was approved, if you applied inside the UK
• your biometric residence permit, if you have one
You will receive a police registration certificate once you have successfully registered with the police. Please keep it
while your visa is valid. If you lose your certificate please contact your local police station and they will tell you what to
do.
If you failed to register, your visa might be at risk as it is a condition of your visa in the UK.
Failure to register in time could impact on any visa applications in the UK in future.
Updating your details
You need to inform the police if any of the information you gave to the Police has changed. (for example a new visa
granted, a passport number and/or a new contact address etc.)
If you are studying outside London – please contact the local police station about registration
If you are studying within London – please check the process from Overseas Visitors Records Office (OVRO) about
registration

population of 8 million. London can be divided into North,

South, East and West, and all areas can easily be
accessed via public transport. Here in London, you have London Attractions -

short walk away. From IM you have access to the tube,
buses and trains from Liverpool Street Station.
There is a long list of places you can visit in the UK, such
as the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Kew Gardens,
The O2, Westfield shopping centre and much more.
London is such a diverse city and as a result there are so
many different restaurants and cuisines you can try.
