Welcome Back A huge welcome back to all our families for the start of 2021. I hope that everyone had a safe and happy break. 2021 is shaping up to be another busy year. We have a number of new staff on board who all bring with them many different experiences and skills. We welcome them all and look forward to working together to further improve the outcomes for all our students at Gunnedah Public School, as well as wishing all staff that have moved on all the best. This year we are still dealing with COVID-19 and ensuring that our students and staff remain safe means that we will be temperature testing each morning at the entry points – sandpit gate, bus gate and through the office. Students must use hand sanitiser and wash their hands regularly, as this not only reduces the threat of COVID but is normal hygiene and will prevent the spread of other illnesses such as colds and flu. All external visitors to our school, including parents, will need to follow strict sign in rules and only essential services will be able to enter the school past the office. Assemblies We have decided to have our assemblies once per fortnight on a Friday at 2:10pm, starting next week on Friday, 12th February. At every assembly there will be a class production, student awards and weekly summaries of events. Parents are now able to return to our assemblies and we hope to see as many families as possible. It means so much to all our students to have families at our assemblies. Please enter through the office and follow the COVID safe routines. Mutual Exchange We are very excited to have a whole new way for students and families to be able to access uniforms, food, excursions and all the other things that help students be smarter and kick goals in life. Mutual Exchange basically works like a barter system. All families have different levels of resources; some have money, some don’t; some have heaps of time and others very little. But everyone absolutely has so many skills in many different things. Mutual Exchange is a great chance for you to share them. This year if “cash” isn’t an option for your family, we want you to know is that there are lots of other ways for you to exchange for things at school, such as helping out with canteen, in the library, with P&C events and gardening. Besides helping your child win more often, it’s also a great way for you to develop new skills and meet new people too, so no matter which way you look at it you win! Voluntary Contribution All families are asked to pay the school voluntary contribution of $50 per family. This money goes towards supplying all the equipment needed for learning, including books, paper, pens, pencils, readers etc. It makes an enormous difference to the school, so please make arrangements to pay this through the office as soon as possible. P&C The P&C is absolutely vital to out school. They provide subsidies for ALL students for excursions, run our canteen and help fund programs within the school. All students benefit from the money raised by the P&C and I feel that every family should be involved in some small way. The P&C meets once per month and I am asking that all families think about attending, as the P&C are only asking for anything that you are able to offer. The more members we have, the less everyone needs to do and the more money is raised to help your children and family. Kindergarten All Kindergarten students and parents will be coming to school to complete their Best Start assessment and meet their teachers. When you arrive at this meeting, your child will receive a school hat and parents will receive all the information they need for a smooth transition to school. If you have not yet enrolled your child and are intending to enrol at Gunnedah Public School, please contact the office and complete an enrolment form. All Kindergarten students will be starting school on Wednesday, 3rd Feb. Years 1-6 All students were allocated their classes and teachers on Friday and spent the day getting to know each other and setting up their classrooms. All classes will be straight into learning this week. There is no need to supply pens and pencils etc, as the school will provide all that is needed, so keep these items to use at home. Breakfast Club Breakfast club will be starting back up in Week 3, following strict COVID guidelines. Breakfast club is a service that is provided for and loved by all students two days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are asking that if there are any community volunteers to help with breakfast club, they contact the school office. Cathie McMaster, Principal
