Welcome Due to the evolving COVID situation in the Northern suburbs, staff at GDC took the cautious approach and cancelled our Transition Parent Information session planned for Monday 16 November. Transition Program at GDC The transition program at GDC has been ongoing throughout the year. Events have included: Modified Principal tours to showcase our school, Old scholars returning to previous primary schools to discuss high school life, School Tours and Activities with Middle School Peer Support Leaders, Meeting with primary school teachers and leaders to support the students transitioning The program will continue into 2021 (depending on COVID restrictions) with: A staggered start at the beginning of the year for year 7 and 8 students, and A transition BBQ to meet and greet teaching and support staff. Uniform Policy By attending this College students are agreeing to wear school uniform, and parents/carers are agreeing to ensure that their students have access to the school uniform. UNIFORM RULES: Only uniform items can be worn, Plain black shoes with enclosed toes only are to be worn, PE uniform items cannot be worn with daily uniform items and are only to be worn for PE, Denim and leggings are clothing deemed unsuitable for school wear, NO HOODED JUMPERS due to health & safety concerns in certain lessons. Uniform Shop The 2020 GDC Uniform Policy and Price List are now available for download on our website. Hambours are our nominated suppliers and a representative (Karen) is at the College three days a week during school terms to assist with fittings and ordering. Karen is also available during school hours on M: 0437 961 612. The GDC School Uniform Shop opening hours are: Tuesday 8.15am - 9.15am Wednesday 8.15am – 10.15am Thursday 1.30pm – 3.00pm Alternatively you can purchase items online to receive a 5% discount. Please note: online orders will be available for collection during the above Uniform Shop open times only. Day Structure Students are expected at school ready for Home Care at 8.45am and stay for the entire school day until dismissal at 3.15pm. Attendance & Absences As a parent or caregiver it is your responsibility to: • Have your child at school on time and before the morning bell – 8.45am • Collect your child at the end of the school day – 3.15pm • Provide your contact details including your mobile phone and email address to Reception staff. Ensure your details are up to date. • Please inform the school of your child’s absence by ringing (08) 8521 2400 Page 13/18
Early Pick Up All students are required to sign out at Student Services before leaving the school early. Sign out will only occur if the students presents a signed note in their diary or Student Services have spoken with an approved family member on our data base. We make every effort to support your request for early pick up that is made at late notice, however due to the size of the College it is necessary to advise you it can take up to 20 minutes to locate your child or children and bring them to Reception. Mobile Phones Students bringing mobile phones to school do so at their own risk. Mobile phones are not to be used during class time. They need to be kept out of site and if they are needed for any reason, students must seek permission from their teacher. Students must also ensure that they are not filming or taking photos of other students whilst on school grounds. Page 15/18
Canteen Our school canteen is independently run by Rory’s School Lunches. Students can purchase food during recess and lunch or orders can be placed via Qkr! before 8.30am. Outside takeaway food and drink is not permitted. Step 1. Download Qkr! On your Android phone or iPhone. iPad users must download iPhone app. Step 2. Register Select your Country of Residence as ‘Australia’ and follow the steps to register. Step 3. Find our school Our school will appear in ‘Nearby Locations’ if you’re within 10km’s of our school, or search for our school by name. Step 4. Register your child When first accessing our school you will be prompted to add a student profile for your child/children. This allows you to make orders and payments for them. Page 16/18
Take Away Food Students are requested to consume all take away food or drink before entering school grounds during school hours. Take away food and drink includes any take away food and drinks brought onto premises by students, family members or food delivery outlets. Students will be requested to either: • Handover take away food or drink at Reception or • Consume the food or drink on the seat outside Reception Sign out passes will not be approved to leave grounds to purchase food. Students are encouraged to use the school canteen. Page 17/18
