It is great to see you are taking pride in your work and completing all tasks to a high standard. Ava Kirley For showing bravery when completing your public speaking competition speech in front of the whole school. Your speech about the RSPCA was well researched and well delivered.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGES Welcome Tameeka This term we welcome back Tameeka Godde as she returns from Family Leave. While it has not been the smoothest of starts for her, I know everyone is happy to have Tameeka back on board as the 4/5/6 class teacher for the remainder of the year. Public Speaking Competition: Last Thursday all students from Year 3-6 participated in the school level public speaking competition. The 3/4 students spoke about a variety of volunteer organisa- tions in our local community. The 5/6 students spoke about the environment and how it is currently being impacted. I was amazed at the quality and variety of the content within the speeches and I can see how much time and effort went in to preparing them over the holiday break. Thankyou for assisting the students, so they felt confident and ready on the day. Unfortunately the Lions Club lev- el will not proceed in person this year. Instead, teachers will record the speeches when the students return to school and submit these to be judged virtually by the panel of judges. Division Cross Country: Last week 13 of our students travelled into Willow Park in Wodonga to participate in the Division Cross Country Carnival. It was very wet and the students had to run in freezing conditions. Despite the challenges that the weather presented, all students showed grit and determination to finish their races in great times. When students returned to school they were given hot chocolates to defrost! Well done to all the students who progressed to this level, it is a great achievement. Winter Sports: I am currently unsure about if and when the Winter Sports Carnival will be held. It is currently on the school calendar for Monday 26th July, but I will keep you informed if this changes due to current restrictions. Art Update: Every second Friday the OFPS students receive a visit from the MACC van for a 1.5 hour art lesson. Heather Earles has just commenced family leave and Lucy Turner will replace her as the art teacher for the remainder of the school year. The students briefly met Lucy when she popped in to introduce herself and we look forward to seeing her when the students return.
Victorian High Ability Program: Last term Maydee was selected to participate in the Victorian High Ability English Program through Virtual School Victoria. Each week Maydee logged onto a virtual class with students from other schools in North East Victoria to develop her narrative writing skills. We hope to be able to further this learning by running a whole day ‘Masterclass’ this term at OFPS. Well done Maydee! St Johns First Aid: On Thursday our students received a visit from St John’s Ambulance Victoria. The junior class learned how to check for danger and a response in an emergency situation and how to correctly place a 000 call. The senior students learned all the steps in DRSABC and spent time learning how to correctly do CPR. Let’s hope they never need to use these skills, but if they do, the OFPS students will be ready! If you are wanting an activity to try at home during re- mote learning, you could try to follow Maggie’s proce- dure ‘How to make fairy bread!’
Have a say in the strategic direction for our school by attending the upcoming parent focus group session. During this session you will have an opportunity to discuss the schools strengths/areas for improvement as the school looks to develop a new strategic plan 2021-2025.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK! Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/ Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted with parents/ caregivers/guardians (previously known as the Parent Opinion Survey). It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learn- ing. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Sunday 22nd August. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
