Recently, we received the air quality test results, which confirmed that no unusual conditions were evident. • The district has met and maintained all measures required for air quality as per the provincial guidelines - this includes implementing the provincial requirements of having air filtration systems meet the MERV-13 level. Why some windows were sealed: • Godson Elementary is an older building. With COVID-19, windows have been used more frequently. • During regular site visits to the building in 2020, it was evident that increased usage posed a potential safety hazard during opening and closing functions on some of the windows. • Contractors were brought in to provide repairs. A small number of windows were beyond repair and were sealed to ensure student and staff safety. • Rooms with sealed windows still have access to natural ventilation through upper windows that open to four inches and provide additional airflow throughout classrooms and the building. Additional Work That Will Be Done: In addition to this, the HVAC crew were onsite on Wednesday February 10. During this time, they measured for the addition of a substantial exhaust fan for each of the hallways affected by lack of ventilation. The plan is that over Spring Break, workers will be installing door vents into each room of concern. Once this is done, the plan is to run the exhaust fans during the day. This will provide air flow by drawing air from the open windows and through the door vents to the exhaust fans. District workers are confident that this method will provide positive results, allowing increased air movement within the classrooms in a more expedient way.
1 Hour Early Dismissal – Wednesday & Thursday, March 10 & 11 The one-hour early dismissal days are intended for parent/teacher meetings. These meetings are not intended for all students, but for when a parent, or a teacher, request a meeting for a specific purpose. If you believe you need to meet with your child’s teacher for a specific reason, please contact the teacher, and request a time to meet. Note that due to covid restrictions, and the stringent health and safety protocols we are asked to follow, that most meetings will happen via phone call or virtually (Teams or Zoom). In some cases, a face-to-face meeting can be arranged. Canuck Place - Cookie Day Fundraiser We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our Godson families! The Canuck Place Cookie Day raised $2490.00. This included a donation from Aldergrove Credit Union, which matched funds up to $750! We are also very thankful to Abbotsford-Sumas Rotary Club who donated money to help purchase the cookies so that we were able to donate 100% of the profits to Canuck Place! Thank you, Godson Community, for your amazing generosity! We are so grateful, and we know that Canuck Place will be too! Grade 1 – 5 registrations for NEW students continues Toys… stuffies, electronic devices and personal items: We ask that students leave toys and personal items at home. Toys are a distraction in class and then create issues outside if lost or broken. No toys at school unless the purpose is for Show & Tell. Thanks for helping us and for monitoring what your child brings to school. Animals on School Grounds A reminder that animals are not allowed on school district property. Please do not bring your dogs to school when picking up or dropping off your child. Adults Wearing Masks on School Grounds With the increase in COVID cases in the Fraser Health Region, we would respectfully ask that all adults wear a mask when on school grounds. This just provides an extra measure of protection for everyone. Thanks in advance! Messages for your child and/or your child’s teacher Messages for your child and/or your child’s teacher about after school pick up, etc., need to be communicated PRIOR to drop off or via the school planner to minimize disruptions to instructional time. Thank you for your help with this.
School Website - http://godson@abbyschools.ca Please remember to bookmark and check our school website for updated information and links. The Importance of Regular Student Attendance Unless a student is sick, it is very important that they attend school each day. Please make every effort to ensure that your child gets to school each day that they are well. The work that is missed in the classroom cannot be easily substituted, and teachers cannot be responsible to send work packages home. Thanks in advance! AM/PM Parking Student and public safety are top priority. As such, police and bylaws will be ticketing vehicles illegally parked or blocking residents’ driveways, emergency service vehicle routes, or in the middle of the cul de sac. If you are having a difficult time finding a legal place to park, I would like to offer a few suggestions: 1. If you live close to the school, walk your child to/from school each day 2. Arrive early (10-15 minutes before start time) to get a limited parking spot, and have your child/ren remain in the vehicle with you until staff supervisors are in place 3. Park in the Mill Lake parking lot on the North side of Bevan, across from the school, and walk your child/ren across the pedestrian cross walk and to the school. There is often lots of space in this parking lot, and it is not a restricted use lot. And the walk is not too far. Further Reminders Parking in our fire lane is NOT an option. The fire lane in on the East side of the school near the small gym. Staff Parking Lot: NO Parking at any time – no excuses. We have more staff members than we do parking spots, which means some staff must double park in designated areas. Bus Lane: We do have 2 buses that pick up and drop off students daily. Please do not park in the bus zone. Drive Through Lane: Please do NOT stop or park in the middle of the lane or on the left side of the lane. Please be respectful of the people behind you. Handicap Parking: In order to park in these spaces, the vehicles must have a visible handicap decal.
Parking in our Additional Parent Parking Lot: Please do not park along the fence. It makes it difficult for cars to back up from their stalls. Brundige Avenue: Additional parking has been created by the City of Abbotsford with a new sidewalk. Please park as per the city signs. Please do not block any driveways. Stevenson Street: The school district widened the cul-de-sac to fit more cars. Please do not block any driveways. Neighbouring Streets: Please note that we have been given permission from the city of Abbotsford to park on the neighbouring streets where city signs are posted “Residents only”. The permission is during PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF TIMES ONLY. Leaving Early Does your child need to leave early for an appointment? If yes, please make sure you message the teacher and/or office beforehand. This way, the teacher will have him/her ready for the time required. Spring Break is here … yeah! On a final note, I wanted to wish everyone a relaxing and fun-filled Spring Break. Be sure to enjoy many great family moments together. School is back in session on Monday, March 29th. See you then!
