Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the exciting opportunity to apply for the post of
Geography Teacher at St Ives School. We are delighted that you are considering joining our school at such
an exciting stage in our development. St Ives School is an 11-16 secondary school in St Ives, Cornwall with
approx. 600 students on roll. We are part of the growing Penwith Hub of Truro and Penwith Academy Trust
and work closely with our Trust partners, primary schools and local colleges.

St Ives School was judged as ‘good’ by OFSTED in February 2017 and we are extremely proud to have
achieved an ‘Outstanding’ Grade for Leadership, recognising the dedication and commitment of our staff
team, school leaders and Governors to the rapid and sustained improvement of the school over the last 5
years. It is also testament to our commitment to the highest quality support and professional development
for our staff, at every stage of their career. We run our own CPD programmes for NQTs, developing
outstanding teachers and for emerging senior and middle leaders and ensure that teachers are able to
access nationally accredited courses: each year we have teachers working on and completing their NPQML
and NPQSL. The team has experience of working with trainee teachers and supporting the development of
NQTs in Geography. We have a comprehensive CPD programme not just in the school, but in Geography,
as we continually look to develop and improve our practice.

At St Ives School we believe that all our students can achieve excellence, no matter what their background
and that they all deserve the very best teachers and resources to help them secure the very best
qualifications. Accordingly, the Academy offers a rigorous curriculum and a broad enrichment programme
for students of all ages. This year, we have launch two impressive whole school initiatives: our ‘Be Inspired’
programme runs weekly on Thursdays and offers students 60 different activities to choose from, developing
leadership, team work, self confidence and a love of learning. Our Growth Mindset Academy was launched
this term, and challenges every member of the school community to demonstrate their Growth Mindset
through their work, resilience, successes and failures: all understanding that we learn through mistakes and
carry on learning throughout our lives.

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about teaching
Geography. The person we appoint will have the skills and qualities to inspire our motivated students to
further success, ensuring high attainment, progress for all and outstanding teaching and learning. You will
                                                                                                      Jan 2021
be ‘solution focussed’, a determined optimist and deeply committed to improving outcomes for all our
students. You will also need a comprehensive knowledge of the Geography curriculum requirements, and of
pedagogy. The ability to teach to teach a second subject in humanities (e.g. History / RE / PSHE) would be
welcomed. You may, or may not, have a current teaching position within a Geography team. This is not
essential and we will welcome applications from teachers looking for their first teaching position, who can
demonstrate the skills and resilience to improve the outcomes for students in Geography.

The successful applicant will be a strong team player fully aligned to our school’s ethos of high academic
expectation and aspiration for all. They will want to be a key part of body of teachers that work tirelessly to
help our students develop the qualities and skills that will help them flourish and succeed in life. As a member
of the St Ives School staff team, you will receive the highest quality support, coaching, training and
development opportunities that will help you become the very best that you can be.
