WYVERN ST EDMUND’S LEARNING CAMPUS End of Term Newsletter Staffing Ms Foster gets married on Saturday and we wish her a wonderful wedding– she will return Christmas Message as Mrs Lee. We are currently Type Here… finalising the employment of a Geography teacher to cover Mrs Roycroft’s classes. Charity Fundraising This term we have raised lots of money for our chosen charities and other worthy causes: ‘Bring a Pound to Work Day’ raising an impressive £1091. Year 7 Bake Sale raised a fantastic £165 for the Poppy Appeal. Year 7 Christmas Bring and Buy Sale was very successful raising £251.56. Christmas Jumper Day raised lots of cheer and an amazing £371.12 which will go towards St Thomas’ Church to help with their renovations. Along with the sponsored walk and non-uniform days our grand total this term is a staggering £8639.80! We are aiming for £20,000 for the year! Healthy Eating This year the DT department is running three Healthy Eating Weeks, one in November, February and June. Each of the weeks will focus on promoting an aspect of healthy Eating. The first healthy eating week focussed on getting your 5-a-day and drinking plenty of water and students reported that this focus week had an impact on their nutrition – so we are very pleased! Lunch We introduced our new menus this term. The catering team have been working closely with the MLP Executive Chef to redesign the food offer. We have had great ‘feed’ back from both students and parents about the more healthy options, and whilst some students are still a little uncertain about Meat-free Monday, we are pleased with our efforts to become a ‘greener’ school…. Sporting Successes Highlights - Year 8 Boys rugby team were runners up in the John Hanson 10’s tournament. Congratulations to all! - Year 7 boys’ rugby team beat Henry Beaufort 45-5, Player of the Match was Kyle Nicklin. - U14 girls’ football team won their county cup match 7-1 against Stonehenge! Player of match: Olivia Girls U15 rugby had an impressive win of 60-24 against Glover (5 goals) (photo below) Henry Beaufort School in Winchester. - U14’s boys’ football team beat Matravers School 8-1 in the Wiltshire cup! - Year 8 boys’ football league fixture vs St Jo’s – 7-0 win. - Avon Valley Cross Country results: 1st places for minor boys, minor girls, and junior girls’ teams Year 7 boys’ football v St Jo’s - Won 12-1! Netball Both the Year 7 and Year 8 Netball teams played Trafalgar School, all players fought hard and played some excellent netball! Congratulations to everyone that played and for two fantastic wins, Year 7 Boccia Competition won 12-2 and Year 8 won 15-2. Well done Congratulations to all who took part. Many to Evie and Olivia who were voted players congratulations to winners, Katie Feest and Alysha of the match by the opposition. Adaway. Carol Service Events in School What a spectacular event this was! The carol service is always a wonderful event, but this year was even more brilliant! The theme was Busy, busy………… ‘carols from around the world’ and the music was incredibly uplifting. Year 7 Showcase Many congratulations and thanks to Two packed houses enjoyed a wonderful trip through all the students and staff involved. the music of the 20th century. General Election Senior Prize Giving In November we celebrated current and former students at our Annual Senior Prize Giving. Toby Giles (former student) gave an inspirational address to our students. Last week the school took part in our own General Election. It was interesting talking to the students about their views.
