The Tile Contractors’ Association of America’s 2019 Architecture/Interior Design Scholarship for Professional Degree Candidates General Information and Instructions for Applicants THE PROGRAM The Tile Contractors’ Association of America (TCAA) is a national trade association representing ceramic tile and stone installation companies throughout the United States who are members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Al- lied Craftworkers. In 2001, TCAA established a merit scholarship program. TCAA will award a $5,000 scholarship to a qualifying student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate level professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design. APPLICATIONS Application forms can be obtained on our website @ https://www.tcaainc.org/scholarships, or by contacting TCAA via email at info@tcaainc.org. ELIGIBILITY FOR ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS Applicants must be a US citizen and enrolled and working toward a professional degree in architecture and for the 2019/2020 academic year must be: • In the third or fourth year of a five-year program that results in a BArch or equivalent; • In the fourth or fifth year of a six-year program (4+2 or other combination) that results in an MArch or equivalent; OR • In the first, second or third year of a three- to four-year program which results in a MArch within the Architecture dis- cipline. The majority of credit courses must be earned in a campus environment. ELIGIBILITY FOR INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENTS Applicants must be a US citizen and enrolled in a CIDA-accredited university or college program, working toward a pro- fessional degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture and for the 2019/2020 academic year must be: • In the second or third year of a four-year program leading to a BS, BA, BID or BFA in Interior Design or Interior Ar- chitecture; OR • In the first year of a two-year program OR the first or second year of a three-year program leading to a MA or MFA in Interior Design or Interior Architecture. The majority of credit courses must be earned in a campus environment. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The following is required from each applicant: A completed original scholarship application A transcript from each academic institution for immediate past 4 semesters. Two letters of recommendation A resumé An essay (500 words or less) describing the student’s understanding of the principles of sustainable (Green) architecture or design and the use of ceramic tile/stone in support of those principles A personal statement describing educational goals as they relate to architecture or interior design A list of previous awards, scholarships, and financial aid received as an architecture or interior design student A statement of academic ranking and grade point average, signed by the dean, or administrative head of the Architectural or Design department ALL MATERIALS MUST BE INCLUDED IN WITH THE APPLICATION AND POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN APRIL 6, 2019. AWARD One award will be presented each year in the amount of $5,000. Scholarship award to be announced in July 2019. The winning applicant will be notified by email. Scholarship check must be issued in the name of the applicant and appropriate university/college. The award may not be used retroactively. Page 1

Submit your response on a separate sheet of paper (maximum of two pages, double- spaced, 11 pt. font) and include your name in the upper right corner of each page. PERSONAL STATEMENT Submit a one 1-1½ page double spaced typed essay (approx. 500 words, at least 11-point font) that clearly states your educational goals as they relate to your future professional career. Use the following outline for your statement. In- clude information about your interests and extracurricular activities, community work, and work experience and how they affect or influence your education. Use a separate sheet of paper and include your name in the upper right corner of each page. • State your education goals. • Identify the areas of study you intend to pursue to meet the goals. • Clearly state your involvement in these specific areas. • Explain how you intend to apply these interests to the architectural or interior design/interior architecture profes- sion.
