Paul Roos 150 Trust Fund An endowment fund focused on upholding the tradition of academic excellence for future generations.
Aims of the Paul Roos 150 Trust Fund THE PURPOSE OF THE PAUL ROOS 150 TRUST FUND IS TO • Maintain academic excellence at Paul Roos Gymnasium (PRG) in spite of the challenges to quality education in South Africa; • Assist in securing the future of the school as an institution of superior instruction for generations to come. Challenges faced by PRG THE DIFFICULTY OF ATTRACTING TOP-QUALITY TEACHING STAFF The growing shortage of well-trained teachers in South Africa, plus the high cost of accom- modation in Stellenbosch, affect the ability of PRG to attract the best teachers. INADEQUATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT BY THE STATE Only 50% of PRG’s teachers are paid for by the government. There is no contribution by the state towards maintenance and improvement of the school’s infrastructure. DECLINING INCOME FROM SCHOOL FEES The projected school fee exemptions for 2021 amount to R7 million. Despite minimal in- creases in school fees, exemptions escalated since 2020 as a result of the economic impact of Covid-19.
