RANGITOTO COLLEGE WATER POLO Welcome Rangitoto Water Polo Parents and Students to the 2019 Water Polo Season. The purpose of this document it to provide you with information for 2019 Water Polo and will be available on our Rangitoto College Water Polo Webpage *Please note this document may be updated due to changes in the programme. Communicating with us Email correspondence - All notice regarding attendance, training or game issues should be communicated directly with Scott the Water Polo Program Manager via email in the first instance between the hours of 8am-4pm. Any correspondence outside of 4pm will be responded to the following day. scott.vaughan@rangitoto.school.nz. Phone calls - We ask you to kindly phone between reasonable working hours and only for issues that require attention in real time. Anything that can be redirected to email during School hours would be greatly appreciated. Cost to play Water Polo It depends on the team and type of competition or training, but please use the following as a guideline.
Premier Teams - 2019 Term 1 Season: $750.00 - $800.00 - 2019 North Island Championships: $90.00 - $100.00 - 2019 National Championships: $850.00 - $950.00 - 2019 Term 3 and/or 4 training: $200.00 per term - 2019 Trans-Tasman Tournament (boys only) TBC $2000.00 - $2500.00 Other Senior Teams - 2019 Term 1 Season: $350.00 - $400.00 - 2019 North Island Championships: $90.00 - $100.00 - 2019 National Championships: $400.00 - $450.00 - 2019 Term 3 and/or 4 training $60.00 - $100.00 per term Junior Teams - 2019 Term 1-4 Season: $650.00 - $700.00 - 2019 North Island Championships: $90.00 - $100.00 - 2019 Challenger Cup – Please click link for further information – Challenger Cup Criteria Water Polo is a team sport. It is difficult to base selection strictly on trials therefore some subjective judgement may be required from previous school performances. Some of the selection criteria is measurable however the majority is under the discretion of the coaches. The coaching team will base their decision on what is best for the team overall. The selection criterion is outlined below. Basic Fundamentals: Swimming Speed, Technique, Endurance Water Polo Swimming Correct egg beater Correct breaststroke Ability to catch / throw with one hand Spatial awareness Ability to press and mark players individually Ability to work as a team Detailed Criteria: (more relevant as we move through the age groups) Individual / team play characteristics Individual ball handling Application of skills to the game situation Passing under pressure
Ability to maintain possession Ability to make execute correct decisions under pressure Technical abilities in specific positions Drivers Ability to shoot – technical and shot selection Ability to create a passing option / assist a team mate / good pass selection Ability to earn an advantage or exclusion Centre Defenders Ability to read the game (attack and defence) Ability to front mark Ability to counter attack Ability to communicate with defence and follow tactical instruction Centre Forwards Ability to control opposition Ability to control the ball Ability to execute range of shoots Good shot selections Ability to earn exclusions Ability to cover and participate in team defence Outside Shooters Good shot selection Ability to shoot under pressure Ability to shoot around blockers Ability to score from different positions/ angles Goalkeepers Ability to block shots Ability to communicate with defence Reaction to rebounds/ CF shots Long accurate passes Technical able depending on shot (lob etc.) Ability to anticipate Ability to read the game and steal balls ALL PLAYERS Work effectively with the team Play and co-operate within the team

Training Venue & Etiquette ● The training venue for all Rangitoto College Water Polo Teams are Millennium Pool and National Aquatic Centre ● The environment at Rangitoto is a safe, supportive and inclusive place to enjoy sport, please respect your environment and respect others. Training Times These training times are done in line with previous years and may be subject to change at the discretion of coaches, pool space limitations & number of teams. First aid/incident reporting - Utilise pool lifeguards - Each manager will have a first aid kit supplied by the school - Email details of accident/incident to Scott Vaughan as soon as possible. Concussion management If a student has a head knock during a game or training and shows signs of concussion: The student will refrain from training/game for the remainder of their school game/ training.
