Village of Point Edward COVID-19 Update: Mayor’s Message, April 3, 2020 The Village of Point Edward’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve based on orders issued by the provincial and federal government and the latest information from Lambton Public Health. Please monitor the Village’s website and Facebook Page for updated information as things are changing quickly. Your safety and security remains our top priority. The Ontario government has extended its state of emergency and all related orders to remain in effect until April 13. The penalties for disobeying an emergency order can be severe, including steep fines and imprisonment. Law enforcement officers are authorized to enforce all emergency orders, including the restrictions on social gatherings, the closure of outdoor recreational amenities, and the closure of non-essential businesses. In Point Edward, enforcement will be handled by the O.P.P. To report an offence related to COVID-19, please call the O.P.P.’s toll-free line: 1-888-310-1122. All communal or shared, public or private, outdoor recreational amenities in Ontario are closed. This closure includes playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, beaches, skateboard and BMX parks, picnic areas, outdoor community gardens, park shelters, outdoor exercise equipment, condo parks and gardens, and other outdoor recreational amenities. Green spaces in parks, trails, ravines and conservation areas that aren’t otherwise closed remain open for walk-through access at this time, but individuals must maintain the safe physical distance of at least two metres apart from others. Ensure that you are practicing social/physical distancing if you choose to use Village walkways. NEW R To protect the safety of first responders, enforce physical distancing measures, and prioritize E ORD emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies, Point Edward has issued a new emergency order prohibiting all recreational fires, open fires or cooking fires within the boundaries of the Village of Point Edward until further notice. Lambton County Social Services is asking that those in need of income support assistance to cover the costs of food, shelter, and basic needs follow these guidelines to apply: • Those requiring income supports that are not currently on assistance are asked to apply Online at www.ontario.ca/socialassistance or contact the Ontario Works intake line at 519-332-4906. • Those already on assistance should connect with their Caseworker by phone at 519-344-2062 for assistance. Leaf/Grass collection will be taking place as scheduled on Monday, April 6. Please place items in paper bags rather than bins marked with an ‘X’ at this time. As noted in your first quarter newsletter, brush collection is now a separate event and not scheduled to begin until Tuesday, April 14. Point Edward’s waste collection contractor has requested that garbage be placed in plastic bags instead of bins at this time. Please ensure all bags are securely tied. The municipal parking lots located at Waterfront Park, Livingston Street and Monk Street are closed to support social/physical distancing and encourage people to stay home. The Federal Bridge Corporation has also closed their parking lot south of the Bridge. If you feel sick, please consider the severity of your symptoms. Self isolate if you have mild symptoms such as a fever or cough. Efforts are being made to save hospital beds for the most critical patients and local testing currently prioritizes those at highest risk. If your symptoms become more severe and you need to seek medical attention, call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866- 797-0000, or your health care provider for assessment. You can also call Lambton Public Health at 519-383-8331. For extremely severe symptoms call 911 or visit the emergency department. Resources for Grocery/Food Deliveries 211 Ontario can help you find the supports you need for getting groceries delivered or running errands while you are at home sick or self-isolating. It’s as easy as dialing 211. This three digit phone number also will help you find access to mental health support, financial assistance and more call 211 – day or night for referrals to community and social services across Ontario. More information is available at www.211oncovid19.ca. Sarnia Produce is offering Lambton County deliveries through On the Dot delivery service. JB Global Market will deliver fresh produce and international food items. Let them know if you’re a senior, as they have offered to waive the delivery fee for seniors. Resources for Grocery/Food Deliveries Sarnia Blessings provides a meal service for seniors and vulnerable people. They advertise wholesome homemade meals prepared with the utmost of care for proper hygiene. Please call (519) 402-9093 to place an order or fill in the meal request form. There is no charge for this service, but we request at least 1 days notice so we can ensure we have a volunteer available. 2. Nutritional Networking: this is a program where a volunteer will go to a client’s house, pick up their cash and grocery list and go to one grocery store and do the shopping for them. A volunteer will then bring the groceries to the client’s front doorstep. This program costs $6.50 and the client will receive an invoice at the end of the month.
