BIG CONCERT NEXT SATURDAY EVENING! – The excitement is growing as we will be hosting the world renowned Tallis Scholars next Saturday, May 7th for the last concert of their American tour. This is truly a wonderful honor for us, and I am most grateful to our parishioner, Mr. Paul Anderson, for doing the heavy lifting on making this event possible. It is a big honor for us and part of our ongoing effort to make St. Andrew's the center for sacred music in our area. If you have not yet purchased your tickets for the concert, please do so today at the parish website: www.standrewpasadena.org. Proceeds from the concert will go toward our Capital Campaign for the new parish/school multipurpose building. PLEASE NOTE: Confessions that afternoon and evening will take place at the Pastoral Center NOT in the church. I encourage everyone who wishes to avail themselves of the Sacrament to please try to do so on Tuesday evening rather than this particular Saturday. Evening Mass at 5:00 p.m. will be held as usual although with recited, rather than sung, Mass parts in order to abbreviate the time somewhat. SACRAMENTS "SEASON" – The Easter season is also the time for the reception of the Sacraments. Tomorrow the children from our Religious Education Program will be making their First Confessions in preparation for their First Holy Communion next month. On Saturday, the children from St. Andrew School 2nd grade will receive their First Holy Communion. And soon our teenagers will also receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep them all in your prayers. MOTHERS’ DAY – Next Sunday is Mothers’ Day. There will still be a special blessing for all mothers at the end of each Mass. A wonderful gift for your mother (or grandmother or Godmother or sister, etc.) would be a remembrance in our annual Novena of Masses. The novena begins on the Monday after Mothers' Day. The cards are available at the Pastoral Center and at the church gift shop. MONTH OF MARY – Today we begin the month of May which is traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. During this month we will have the traditional “Crowning of Mary” by our School and Religious Education children. The May Crowning by the school will take place on May 13th, Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, at 10:30 a.m. followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The May Crowning for the Religious Education children will take place the following day, Saturday, May 14th at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to either or both of these beautiful celebrations. I encourage you this coming month specially to pray the Rosary which is the most wonderful of Marian devotions. In Christ and St. Andrew, Father Gonzalez

PRAYER OF THE WEEK Third Sunday of Easter May your people exult for ever, O God, in renewed youthfulness of spirit, so that, rejoicing now in the restored glory of our adoption, we may look forward in confident hope to the rejoicing of the day of resurrection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Reflection question: What does it mean to me to have hope in the Resurrection?
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Third Sunday of Easter, April 18, 2021 Jubilate Deo omnis terra, alleluia: psalmum dicite nomine eius, alleluia: date gloriam laudi eius, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Ps. Dicite Deo, quam terriblia sunt opera tua, Domine! in multitudine virtutis tuæ mentientur tibi inimici tui. (Ps. 66:1-4) Shout joyfully to God, all the earth, alleluia; sing of his glorious name, alleluia; give him glorious praise, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Psalm verse: Say to God: “How awesome your deeds! Before your great strength your enemies cringe. While the disciples are gathered in a locked room, Jesus appears in their midst. It is worth noting that in this past week's Gospel, the episode of “Doubting Thomas” takes place when Jesus appears to the twelve; but, in light of St. Thomas’s confession of faith—“My Lord and my God!—it is better to call that episode “The Belief of Thomas.” An allusion to this detail is perhaps mentioned here when Jesus says, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” Clearly, St. Thomas was not the only one to nurse doubts! After this, Jesus proclaims his Resurrection and all that they are witnessing to be the fulfilment of scripture (as he had just done with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus), and the beginning of the Church. The disciples’ reaction to all this was a complete conversion—they soon went out to the ends of the earth to proclaim this Good News—the Gospel—to all nations. For us, in our weekly encounter with the Divine Presence in the Eucharist, how are we affected? How are we transfigured by the risen Lord? What will our response be—to go out and stay mute? Or will we go out and proclaim the Good News of the Resurrection by our lives? This evening, be sure to join us after the 5:00 p.m. Mass for a free concert by our resident Stirling Ensemble, who will sing the music of living composer Richard Burchard. This wonderful choir is now in Residence at St. Andrew church. We hope you come and support them!
