FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK: Dear Parishioners, This weekend we participate in the Palm Sunday liturgy. Another name for the liturgy this Sunday is Passion Sunday. We receive palms at church as a remembrance of the crowds who welcomed Jesus by waving palms when he entered Jerusalem near the time of Passover. As we hold the palms that we receive, we also are reminded of the way the people in that same place changed their cries from praise to condemnation on Good Friday. We are reminded of the ever present capacity we have to choose to do what is wrong instead of what is right. We hear in the account of Jesus’ passion the conflict and struggle that takes place within us and outside of us between the forces of good and evil. We begin Holy Week this weekend. It is the last week of preparation before we celebrate Jesus’ ultimate victory over sin and death by his resurrection from the dead. This week we celebrate Holy Thursday and then Good Friday. Finally, on the evening of Holy Saturday we will celebrate the Easter Vigil. The Easter Vigil Mass is the highpoint of the church year and the beginning of the Easter Season. This weekend the church calls us to meditate together on the intense love and sacrifice of Christ that made our redemption possible. The crowds who were waving palms to welcome Jesus said these words, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.” Jesus gave totally gave his body and blood to make those words a reality for all time. Jesus went through the suffering, death and resurrection all for us so we may have peace and know God’s glory forever in heaven. Let us then today try to give ourselves more to Jesus by following his way of forgiveness, love and obedience to his divine will. Let us ask Mary, who is Our Lady of Fatima, to pray for us and help us to walk with Jesus. May we make Jesus’ loving passion more our own passion in life. Rev. Rev.
