STEWARDSHIP REPORT The weekend collection for Sunday amounted to total: $ 5,465.50 Cash $ 1,869 Checks $ 2,574 PayPal $ 157.50 WeShare $ 865.00 Thank You. Dear Friends, The work on the elevator has begun. Happily, we collected the funds for this project last year. The parts have only come in this month. Over the past year, however, we have had a few emergencies. During the early part of the Summer we were forced to replace two wooden floors in the community center that suddenly buck- led. Also, last summer we had to erect scaffolds on the two towers to repair two leaks. While we had the scaffold up we decided to take care of some pointing that was part of a long-range pointing pro- ject we were anticipating. When we turned the heat on in the church in September we had a substantial flood originating from several radiators in the area around the Shrine of St. Anne. It turned out that the ancient steam valves had given out. We ended up changing the 60 of them on the 75th and 76th street sides of the church. We began an extensive security job last Spring which is still dragging on because of scheduling issues and problems with delivery of components. We’re covering all the entrances with security cameras, putting in security locks and installing internet access to the rectory, church and commu- nity center. Finally, in August we had to address an emergency drainage problem in the boiler room before we could turn on the heat. The costs of all these projects amounted to $260,000. We have good relationships with all our vendors. They understand that it will take time to pay down the bills, and they are OK with it. Now, the good news. In addition to the Easter collection, St. Jean’s received two $10,000 gifts and a $50,000 gift. These will be used to begin chipping away at those outstanding bills. We extend a huge and very grateful thanks to these donors and all of you for your loyalty and generosity. THE 2022 CARDINAL’S APPEAL Just as in prior years, we are being asked, as Catholics of the Archdiocese of New York, to join together to participate in the CARDINAL’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP APPEAL. We trust that we will continue, through your generosity, to respond to those who are in need as well as assisting the needs of the Archdiocese. The goal this year is $21,000,000, and will be distributed in the following way: • $10 MM – Assistance for Financially Vulnerable Parishes • 6 MM – Charitable Outreach and Pastoral Support • 3 MM – Evangelization, Communications, and Catholic Education • 1 MM – Formation of New Priests • 1 MM – Care for Retired Priests Some members of the parish participate in the APPEAL every year. We thank them for their participation. We reach out in a special way to those who did not participate in last year’s APPEAL or have never participated. Please consider a donation this year. The Archdiocese has set the goal for St Jean Baptiste at $108,000. You should have received a letter from Car- dinal Dolan along with a pledge card to make your gift. If not, there are envelopes at the rear of the church for your convenience. Your participation in the APPEAL is what matters most, not the size of your gift. Last year fewer than 100 parishioners participated in the APPEAL. Hopefully, many more will participate this year. Thank you for all you do, and thank you for your participation in this year’s APPEAL. Fr. John A.
