Order of Worship Gathering Before the Word Words of Meditation “He must have lit up the sky that day on the mountain, what we call the transfiguration. Jesus on the mountaintop unveiled a foretaste of heaven and glory. Light filled him so that the witnesses remarked on a hue of white that was whiter than any shade possible. It was a sci-fi transporta- tion to another dimension and while Peter and John were still reeling, Moses and Elijah showed up. It broke the barrier between heaven and earth, for Jesus was the one who could belong to both at the same time. A citizen of heaven, a citizen of earth.” ― Sara Lowe, Healing, Finding Truth Among the Mysteries Welcome, Ritual of Friendship and Monthly Birthday Wishes Happy Birthday to you; We give thanks for your life; We give thanks for your presence here; we give thanks to God for you. Opening Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. *Call to Worship Beyond our busyness, above the cold winter floor, there is a glory rising born of heaven and reaching out to each one of us. A light that shines through the clouds, an invitation seeking all of who we are, that trans- figures the world That transforms darkness into hope, that brings life from a cross, where old life ends and new life is born In glory Jesus meets us here, raising us from the depths of valley to the height of the moun- tain, carrying the weight of our humanity to the heights of heaven’s glory. Let us worship from the mountain and hear again: “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” -Rev. Rob Smith, Spirit of Life Presbyterian Church, Apple Valley MN Opening Hymn 12 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise St. Denio (verses 1 & 4) (Faith Formation [Sunday School] age children will now be excused with their teachers. Visit- ing parents with children are welcome to escort their children along with the teachers to the Faith Formation classes or the church nursery. Infants and Toddlers start nursery and Faith Formation at 10:00 am. Those with children aged three and under are welcome take them di- rectly to the nursery or classroom before the service starts.) Call to Confession In trust, let us call upon God’s holy name, confess our sin, and receive forgiveness.
Prayer of Confession Merciful and gracious God, we bow before your unending compassion, the measure of our falling short. We have not loved as you command. We have not cared for creation, including ourselves, according to your will. What we intend, we have not pursued; what we mean to avoid, we embrace. Renew our minds to be in the likeness of Christ, that in all thoughts, words, and deeds, our lives might come to honor you. Amen. Assurance of Pardon When one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Let us turn now with unveiled faces to work for the love and reconciliation of the Kingdom of God. Amen. *Sung Response Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. *Response People of God, body of Christ, sisters and brothers, what shall we do in response to God’s for- giveness? As God’s own people we will be merciful in action, kindly in heart, humble in mind. Al- ways ready to forgive as freely as God has forgiven us. And, above everything else we will be loving and never forget to be thankful for what Christ has done for us. Amen. ENCOUNTERING GOD’S WORD Prayer for Illumination By your Spirit, O God, enlighten our hearts, open our minds, fill our vision with your radi- ance, and give us life as we hear your Word today. Amen. All who come to the table are offered the bread and cup, regardless of their age or understanding. If some of those who come have not yet been baptized, an invitation to baptismal preparation and Baptism should be graciously extended.
