Scri pture Read ing... Sunday: Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Ex 24:3-8 Casting a Net Ps 116:12-13,15-18 Heb 9:11-15 Mk 14:12-16,22-26 Monday: D ear sisters and brothers in Christ, 2 Cor 1:1-7 Ps 34:2-9 A friend of mine, a nutritionist, reminds me every year of the need to detox, getting Mt 5:1-12 rid of my body’s toxins acquired from food, lifestyle, and environment. He would remind me that just as I do spiritual cleaning once a year by going on retreat and go for a run to Tuesday: build endurance, my body is what I feed it and is in constant need of cleansing. 2 Cor 1:18-22 Ps 119:129-133,135 The readings for this weekend’s Solemnity of Corpus Christi remind me of the most important Mt 5:13-16 cleansing we have in our Church. The letter of the Hebrews today calls it the “cleansing of our Wednesday: consciences from the dead works of sin.” However, this cleansing does not happen because 2 Cor 3:4-11 we make it possible or because we deserve it. This is made possible because the Body and Ps 99:5-9 Blood of Christ is the most precious gift from God given by the power of the Holy Spirit for the Mt 5:17-19 salvation of the world. The Body and Blood of Christ is the “detox” par excellence. It provides us with the healing we seek, the nourishment we need, and the reintegration to full Thursday: participation in God’s divine life. 2 Cor 3:15—4:1,3-6 Ps 85:9ab,10-14 Jesus’ actions in the gospel reveals how this comes about. By taking, blessing, breaking, and Mt 5:20-26 giving the bread to his disciples, Jesus foreshadows the total gift of his very self on the Cross. Friday: The fullest presence of the kingdom of God is revealed by Jesus’ total gift of self so that all Most Sacred Heart creation be reconciled to God the Father. Jesus, himself, did this at the Last Supper and Christ of Jesus does this at every Mass. Every Mass invites us to allow ourselves to be held by God, to be Hos 11:1,3-4,8c-9 blessed, broken, and given wherever we find ourselves: in our family, workplace, and Is (Ps) 12:2-6 community. Every Mass reminds us that we are wounded healers sharing our very selves, the Eph 3:8-12,14-19 Good News of the selfless love and mercy of God to the world. Jn 19:31-37 St. Augustine is known to have said that the Eucharist calls us to “believe what you see and Saturday: become what you receive.” So, when you come to Communion, believe that Christ himself is Immaculate Heart who you receive. He not only detoxes us from what separates us from a relationship with God of Mary and others, but we are also strengthened to be Christ’s presence in our world. The Eucharist is 2 Cor 5:14-21 not a prize for the good, but is strength for the weak, for all of us redeemed sinners. Ps 103:1-4,9-12 Lk 2:41-51 Indeed, our body is what we feed it and most of the time it clamors for a thorough “cleansing Sunday: of our consciences from the dead works of sin.” This happens at every communion line as we 11th Sunday in receive Christ himself and “believe what we see and become what we receive.” Have a blessed Ordinary Time Solemnity of Corpus Christi! Ez 17:22-24 Ps 92:2-3,13-16 United in Christ, 2 Cor 5:6-10 Mk 4:26-34 Very Rev. René Constanza, CSP Pastor/Rector Fr. René Constanza, CSP page 3
