The feast was first ob- served in the Eastern Church as "The Encounter." In the sixth century, it began to be observed in the West: in Rome with a more penitential character and in Gaul (France) with solemn blessings and processions of candles, popularly known as "Candlemas." The Presentation of the Lord concludes the celebration of the Nativity and with the offerings of the Vir- gin Mother and the prophecy of Simeon, the events now point toward Easter. CANDLEMAS — Inspired the words of the canticle ("a light to the revelation of the Gentiles"), by the 11th century, the custom had developed in the West of blessing candles on the Feast of the Presentation. The candles were then lit, and a procession took place through the darkened church while the Canticle of Simeon was sung. Because of this, the feast also became known as Candlemas.d States today, Candlemas is 2017 CONTRIBUTION STATEMENT REQUESTS 2017 Contribution Statements are prepared by REQUEST only for any registered parishioner. Kiedy nasza parafia osiągnie swoją kwotę docelową, czyli $ 32,112 w gotówce, to 100% dodatkowo zebranych funduszy zostanie zwrócona do parafii na zaspokojenie jej własnych potrzeb.

January 28, 2018 Fourth Ordinary Sunday Page Thirteen ON FOLLOWING BOB’S ADVICE Copyright 2017 by John B. Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com) So I’m going through some rather major changes at work. of our presence. But you know what? I didn’t go out of my way this Department reorganiza on stuff, and with twenty-plus members in me to look at them, or to listen to them, or to read any of their our Quality Assurance group, pre y much everyone is impacted. My signs. I carried my own sign (Choose Life) and quietly prayed for a role will be changing drama cally over the next few months. It’s conversion of hearts in this direc on. Believing in the impact of already started, in fact. For example, I was out of town to Cincinna prayer, I felt that I was--in my own way--effec ng posi ve change. last week, a trip that absolutely was not on my radar screen only a handful of days before it went down. And I’ve already got at least I’m not sure about this, but I’m thinking that if you ask people two more trips coming at me on the immediate horizon. We had a “What was the first miracle Jesus performed?” many would say it department mee ng this past Friday to spell everything out, and occurred at the wedding feast at Cana when Jesus turned water since I’ll be leading some folks as part of the reorganiza on, I spoke into wine. For sure, this is his first miracle recorded in the Gospel of to share my vision of what I saw coming. That’s when I said John. But in the Gospel of Mark--which most scholars put as being something to the en re team that a previous boss said to me years wri en before John--the first miracle is the miracle we read about ago when I was transferred to his area. Bob told me decades back today, when Jesus expels an unclean spirit from a man in the that I had a singular mission in my new capacity: “to effect posi ve synagogue in Capernaum. The spirit calls out to Christ, “What have change.” you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? This impacted me then and now, but probably because it speaks I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus responds, “Quiet! to me in much broader terms than workplace assignments and Come out of him!” And the spirit does. So what does Jesus do here? protocols. These are important, certainly, but effec ng posi ve Ul mately, he removes evil, thus promo ng goodness at the same change in the workplace by fixing this or changing that is a small me. I read years ago that there are two types of people: those part of our larger mission: to build up the Kingdom. This is why I who build things up, and those who tear things down. Put par cipated with thousands of others two Sundays ago at the 2018 differently, perhaps, there are those who work to flourish the Chicago March for Life. It was plenty cold out there, but the posi ve Kingdom, and those who work to destroy it. We’re called to the energy was warming. There were protesters, though. Hundreds, the former. We’re called to follow Bob’s advice. We’re called to effect Tribune reported the next day.
