ELVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME | JUNE 13, 2021 UNDÉCIMO DOMINGO DE TIEMPOS ORDINARIOS | 13 DE JUNIO DE 2021 Pastor’s Corner This Sunday we celebrate the 61st anniversary of the dedication of Saint Isidore’s Church. Looking back over more than 60 years of life here in Yuba City allows us to see how God has been faithful to us, while it also pulls our remembrance even further back: we are part of a Church that has 2,000 years of history. When a new Catholic church is constructed, the bishop celebrates a special liturgy to dedicate the building. In June of 1960, it was Bishop Joseph McGucken who traveled up from Sacramento to join the pastor Father Bernard McElwee for the dedication. At that service blessed chrism, holy oil, would have been poured out on the altar in preparation for the many celebrations of the sacrifice of the Mass that would be offered here. The word used to launch a new church matches what allows it to thrive: dedication. In the beginning, we dedicate a church to the worship of God, and through the years, it is dedication that allows us to be a part of that enduring blessing. This year, we could wonder if the disruption of the past months will dislodge our families, derail us, or diminish the life of our church community. The dedication of our parish community that has seen us through floods and droughts, trials and transitions, can reveal the opportunity we have today: to rededicate ourselves to this church, established 60 years ago—and 2,000 years ago—and again commit ourselves to a faithful God. ELVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME | JUNE 13, 2021 UNDÉCIMO DOMINGO DE TIEMPOS ORDINARIOS | 13 DE JUNIO DE 2021 1 Corinthians 12:12 “As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ.” Do you know you are the Body of Christ? YES, you. If you are reading this, you are NECESSARY to the body of Christ at St. Isidore’s; you are NECESSARY to THIS body and this community. There are no unimportant members. Our Return to Jesus retreat is an opportunity for us to meet as the whole body, a complete Church community, all of us together, and recommit ourselves to Christ and each other. To heal and grow TOGETHER as a body – to obtain His graces and seek His peace and protection. Corinthians continues to say: “Now the body is not a single part, but many. If a foot should say, ‘because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body; it does not for this reason belong any less to the body. Or if an ear should say ‘because I am not an eye I do not belong to the body,’ it does not for this reason belong any less to the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be?” Do you see how necessary you are? You are a vital part of the body of Christ and your presence at the Return to Jesus Retreat would not be the same without you. We invite you to go to the parish website at stisidore-yubacity.org and register for either June 18-20 (Friday 6:00pm 18-Sunday 12:00pm) in English, or June 25-27 (Friday 6:00 25 – Sunday 12:00pm) in Spanish. You are necessary! You Belong! Page | 5
